Capture freezing after 24seconds

Post by neilalp »

I have an issue where the video capture program freezes after 24secs of hdv video which is 75mb. However on my laptop this issue doesn't happen. The only difference is I have Windows Media center edition on my desktop and the laptop has XP professional and 512mb desktop and 1gb laptop. Is there a fix so i can use my desktop to capture more than 24secs of hdv video?

Thanks

I believe the System Requirements are OS W2k and XP Home/Pro only.

MSP 8 works fine on my HP with Win Media Center Edition 2005. Best I can tell Win Media Center 2005 is XP Pro with some bells & whistles. I think you should keep looking for what the problem is.

GY-HD110 capture freezing...

Post by dezco »

I just bought a GY-HD110 camera and I am experiencing the same issues when I try to capture HDV footage using MSP8.

Has anyone been able to figure out why capture fails after 20 or so seconds?

I'm not going to offer much help as to a solution but I just wanted to say that I am running MSP 8 on a Windows Media Center machine and have absolutely not problems capturing long videos (at least an hour) in HD format from my Sony HC-7. So, I doubt that the problem is Windows Media Center itself.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply JDay. I'm glad to hear that. What SP are you running and how much free HD space do you have on the drive that you are using to capture your video?

Do you have an anti-virus on your PC, that's not on your laptop?
I've found large-file creation to be very slow sometimes if Norton is trying to scan it at the same time... esp. Retrospect backups, and video captures.
Try disabling it temporarily and capturing.
I capture HDV no problem on my winXP box, although the video preview screen is very slow/glitchy to update.

You can try switching your camera to "DV-locked" mode etc, where the camera down-converts to SD DV format, and see if it captures OK then (to confirm it's not something w/ the camera & computer/firewire...)

Dezco, I'm running SP2 and have about 80GB of hard drive space free (out of 320GB) on my video drive. Also, my video drive is a separate drive from my program drive.

Hello,
My Laptop with MediaCenterEdition (1,6 GHz and 1GB) can capture HDV. The video capture program stops/freezes after a short time, if my MF5+ is installed (see my post in thread "MSP Capture problem").

FINALLY GOT THIS FIXED!!!

Post by dezco »

Ok guys,

I FINALLY GOT THIS FIXED. And its a good thing because I wasn't going to bet last night until I did get it done. I have a big shoot on June 9th that I'm preparing for and I bought this camera specifically for this shoot so it would have really sucked if I couldn't pull the footage off these tapes.

Anyway, I'm not quite sure what fixed the problem but I do suspect one thing more then another so I'll just list out exactly what I did.

1 - First thing was that I went through my PC and shut down any applications that were running, including McAfee virus Shield.

2 - Next, I went through my HD and deleted any and everything that I didn't need to make additional space. I ended up with about 50gb of free space.

3 - Next, I downloaded and installed VideoStudio 11 demo.

I saw that some people were using this application to capture so I figured I'd give it a try. I did see a capture SDK being installed and a few other things related to capturing video as I was installing VideoStudio11. After the installation I tried running VS11 to capture and the damn thing crashed on me EVERY time I tried to get it to recognize my cam. So that was a dead end. Although i'm not sure if VS11 installed something during its install to help the problem.

4 - Ok so for the last thing, I went to start the MediaStudio Pro capture application BUT (AND ITS A BIG BUT) I did NOT start the application from within MediaStudioPro8. If you go to the Start->Programs menu there is an option to run the capturing application apart from MS8.

From then it recognized my cam right away and I seletected the HDV plug-in. I immediately noticed an improvement as before I was not able to full control my cam from the pc (fast forward, play, rewind). But this time around my cam was VERY responsive to the pc commands. I then re-wound the tape, pressed rec and voila! I was able to capture 20 minutes of video with no problem and I must say (being my first time seeing HDV video) it was absolutely beautiful.

Anyway, sorry I can't pin point exactly what fixed the problem but I have seen several posts with people experiencing issues with the capture freeze and no one has gone back to update the posts with solutions so I figured I'd be the first.

Thanks!
