i have some MPg2 video stored on DVD backup and as trying to locate a clip.
I now have a ticker tap running a long the botton of the footage saying:
"evaluation period has expired. please by the elecard mpg2 video decoder at www.elecard.com or contact sales@elecard.***"
i have tried to search on here for this message but no luck!
Currently have VS10+ but have had in the 6, 7, 8 (eek!) and 9!
I believe the footage was created with version 8 (eek again!)
message shows in window media player and winDVD 7.
all versions were full. This is a new PC and only has had VS9 and 10 on it!
if i redit the video the same message appears?
any ideas?
anyone got a ticker tape appear on their old mpg2 footage?

Sounds like you, or the person who encoded the files, was using a try-before-you-buy codec or plug-in and it water marked the video or the trial period has expired.
Don't think there's much you can do except crop off that portion of the video and re-encode using another codec. Sorry.
But, of course, that's just my S.W.A.G. - the gurus on here might have a better idea.

i have never used try before you buy products from Ulead they have all been full products.
i have done some digging on the net and come across the doom9 website.
it would appear some program has downloaded the elecard codec to my system without permission.
the problem appears to be how the hell do you get rid of it!

To remove a video codec, try this . . . Do so at you own risk. I don't know what all the elecard codec is/does/has integrated itself into your system. You might want to Google about removing it, first.
Setting a restore point before attempting this is not a bad idea. Unless you've set a restore point recently, you should do so.
START | CONTROL PANEL | SYSTEM | HARDWARE TAB | DEVICE MANAGER
Scroll down to SOUND, VIDEO, & GAMES CONTROLLERS
Click the plus sign to the left of it to expand the tree.
Right-click on VIDEO CODECS and select the PROPERTIES choice
Click the PROPERTIES TAB and you *should* see the elecard codec.
Highlight it and click on REMOVE.
Good luck.
