After trimming, anyway to save it fast without Rendering?

Post by vernonlcm »

Hi i m new here, i just got my videostudio 8 but not sure how to save after trimming the parts i wanted.
The way i m doing now is going under SHARE and create video file which is very time consuming. I only trim a small portion and i got to wait for very long time to have it converted. Pls help as if this is going on, i guess i would go crazy waiting for the conversion.
I just want to cut out the portion i wanted and save it only, why must go thru such painfully slow procedure.
Can anyone help to guide me if i m doing the correct way?
Thanks in advance.

When you get to the Create Video File step in the drop down select "Same AS Project Settings".

I just edited out comercials from a 2 hour capture and saved the edited file. It took approximately 7 1/2 minutes.

In VS 8, 'Save Trimmed Video' is found under 'Tools' up in the top right hand corner of screen.

Thanks for your help. I follow exactly the step u taught me but why is it that the rendering speed is still so slow? Did i miss out any steps? It would take me 1hr to save a 10min clips as the rendering is very slow. Hope someone able to point out what went wrong.

Thanks for your help too. Saving trimmed video can only let u open under ulead program but i want to save it into my harddisk so that i can click on my deskstop to view it straight using my window media player.
Any idea how to trim it and save it quickly into my harddisk without the needs of going to creating a video file whereby the speed is so slow. The rendering speed going from 1% to 2% take u 30 seconds or more. Pls help....

It will save it to whatever directory you are using as your working folder. You can open it in Windows Media Player or any other video editing/playing software you wish.

How fast or slow this will take will depend on the size of the video file, the speed of your processor, the amount of physical ram you have and your page file size.

Takes me about 10 minutes to save a 2 hour clip with a 2.2ghz cpu and 384 mb ram.

Thank again for the help. I guess something might be wrong since u r the second person to say that it takes such a short time to process such a long clip. Maybe I will try to reinstall my ulead and see if it works.
My computer is AMD Athlon XP2000 which is equivalent to Pentium 4 1.8Gz with a 512 ram. so this speed definately don't sound right.
OR i did i maybe miss out any important step? Can u guide me step by step after the trimming how should I save it. thanks once again.

Hi,

The *amount* of time necessary to save a new file will depend on the CODEC and size and so on.

DV, for example, is about 13GBs per hour, so a 26GB file will take much more than a few seconds.

Hi Mike,
I m newbie and I m trying to just edit a very small file of 68Mb only which is very much lesser than 1Gb. However trimming and saving into the hard disk took me more than 1 hour. The rendering speed is very slow so I really don't know where goes wrong. Appreciate if someone is able to guide me step by step to see if i m doing the correct thing.
1st step - When i double click on the video studio 8 program, I choose VideoStudio Editor instead of the VS Movie Wizard.
2nd step - I imported a video clip which I had already save it into my harddisk by draging it into the drag and drop video clip placing.
3rd step - I click to above to Share.
4th step - I trim the parts/portion I required and click to create video file.
5th step - I select same as project setting and it require me to type in my file name.
6th step - after i key in the filename and press save. It began to Rendering from 0% to 1%, it took me 30secs or more.

Why is this Rendering so slow? I don't think my file of 67Mb is very big nor my computer speed of AMD Athon XP2000 which is equivalent to Pentium 4 of 1.8 Gz is very slow right? So I just can't understand if I m doing the right step. Somebody pls enlighten me. Thank you.

Hi vernonlcm --

Have you looked at the first post in this forum? That's where you should begin. No use thinking you can jump into Video Studio and get everything right the first time. Carefully read the instructions, which our forum experts have created to help newbies.

You say (in your list of steps) that you click Share, and then you trim video. That is backwards. You should be doing all editing BEFORE any sharing.

First read the instructions. Then, come back and ask questions.

Hi Keith,
I tried edit and trim my video before going to share and create video file. Its no use, i can't stand the rendering speed. Its still too slow. Is there any thing wrong with my system? Anyway to get the rendering speed up as this is my most crucial point on getting my things speed up.
They don't mention anything to speed up rendering speed so i really at a lost on what to do.
Can u imagine that u require 1-2hrs on rendering for your 10min show, how would u feel? Its really boils me down. It dun seems that others is getting this rendering speed so there must be something that dun seems correct when i m doing. Can anyone point out my mistake or guide me step by step to see if i still get this rendering speed.
Can anyone help me pls............? Thanks in advance.

You are evidently following the wrong procedure. What are your project properties? Do they match your captured video properties? Read the top post in this forum. Follow the Recommended Procedure to the letter.

Hi,

The size of the file might matter, depending upon how things are encoded.

But keep in mind that if you have a 320x240 avi file at 15 frames per second that has to be encoded to 720x526 at 25 frames per second (PAL?), then it might take longer to encode than a PAL-sized movie.

CODEC to CODEC matters, too, both in the time to encode and the quality one gets from it.

My advice is simple, but not always what one wants to hear. Use a good encoding tool, edit at the lowest compression availabe to you, and let the rendering to DVD-ready MPEG2 be what it is. Slow in this case likely means better.

Ok thanks for all the advise given. Just want to know ONE thing. I really got quite a handful of video clips which i need to edit/trim and save.

What is the fastest way of trimming my existing video clip which I had already save it in my harddisk in Quicktime format in my pc and after the trimming is done and get it save them back into harddisk so that i can open it with my Quicktime format again.

I would want my size to be cut down eg. from existing 250mb to after trimming maybe around 150mb.

Can this be done in the fastest way possible using back the same properties as from what i had save before which is 640 x 320 at 25fps (PAL) using my MPEG4 video camera.

Thanks for all the help given.

Do u have anyway whereby u can trim and save without the needs of rendering and this process really very slow. Anyon know of any other software or whereby this ulead videostudio 8 can do this job?
It must be able to open by itself using Quicktime format after saving the trimmed video clip.
Really need your help on this. Pls let me know how it can be done. Thanks again.
