having trouble splitting scenes

Post by spider »

I hope someone can help me out, I am frustrated over this problem. I am teaching Digital Video to 13-15 year olds, it's gone well so far. I am using panasonic DV tapes and I'm using videostudio 8 to download, it has asll gone well up until recently. After not using the 3 DV cameras for about 10 weeks all of a sudden they would not download scenes individually although I was ticking the split by scenes box. (it used to do it all the time.) So after much trouble shooting I tried new tapes and it seemed to resolve the problem. However one camera is still giving me problems. I've tried cleaning the heads on the camera to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

could it be that the time codes on your cassette are incoherent; re-using or re-writing an old cassette without starting from the beginning, or skipping parts?
This could puzzle the capture driver.

Reformat the tape by recording a continuous image from start to end (with lens cap on for instance to have it black)

When you re-use a tape rewind it completely and use find-end or append function whatever it's called if you rewind for reviewing for instance.
This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.

Also check to make sure you are capturing to DV format. Split by scene during capture only works with DV format. If you are capturing direct to mpeg-2, for instance, you cannot split by scene during capture; only afterwards...
