Highlights "Blowing Out"

Post by Scott_Mullen »

Can anyone tell me why the highlights in my images are "blowing out" when in the slideshows in DMF6+?

I tried to insert the image here but can't work out how... can anyone help me so you can see what I'm talking about :)

You need to host your image on a web server. There are free ones around like http://s148.photobucket.com/register.php?ref=aboutTitle

You post your image there after you register and then include a link to the image in your post, easy.

thanks... i've worked that bit out now.

Now when I pause the slideshow and bring up the original next to it to compare and do a print screen to show you what is happening... the window of the slideshow appears black when I paste it.

Any ideas on how I can show you what I am experiencing?

Your preview window shows black because the video overlay is not part of the actual screen as far as windows is concerned. Now that has me stumped also.

You could still post the original and the size of it. I guess the effect you are experiencing has to do with DVD MF having to resize the image to fit the TV screen. That requires a number of pixels to be discarded and the adjacent pixels to be approximated by the program. Resize your images in PhotoImpact or any other image editing package you may have. You can also get a trial version from the web. Resize to the correct aspect ratio and close to the frame size for your TV standard.

Let's see what happens.

Here is the original which i have set up within a black canvas at 1200 x 900 pixels so that it fits in with the 4:3 ratio (I have resized it here down to 800 to make life easier.

What is happening is all the highlights down the side of the foot are blowing out and there is no detail at all. The creases etc in the skin are totally invisible.

Any suggestions?

Here is another example of an original. In the slideshow the whole left hand side of the face (RHS of image) is blown out with no detail.

I would darken the whole image in PI prior to bringing it into MF

But then the eyes will be pitch black...

Select the eyes first and save them as objects, darken the picture and bring the previously saved eyes to the foreground. You can even brighten them a bit or change the color. Easy.

Sorry... took me a while to get back to this post. Been a busy week.

I agree that you could do that but surely that is a step that I shouldn't have to do when the image was fine in the first place?? In any other software program the image is spot on... but not when creating a slideshow in MF. It is obviously altering the image which appears to a massive downfall of the software

As I said before, it's the TV resolution which forces a downsizing of the image and resulting loss in detail.

If you find a software which works better than MF, use that one instead
