Cannot Capture Videos

Post by swimmerxc »

Hi All

Recently after doing some video editing stuff and capturing on VideoStudio 9, I decided to make another caputre. But this time when I went to capture the video from the camcorder it said "Capture Failed, The created file is corrupt and unusable. It will be automatically deleted"

I don't know what I did that made this happen, it was working before.... now it isn't even copying... after 30 secs of capturing the thing just says "Capture Failed, The created file is corrupt and unusable. It will be automatically deleted"

I'm copying from a Samsung SC-D363 NTSC to Video Studio 9 on my computer (Which is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000, 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1600 PRO 512 MB, 200GB Hard Drive, Windows Media Center) using a firewire.

Any suggestions on solving this problem would be welcomed. Thanks

What format were you trying to capture the video as? Even though your computer has more than enough resources, some computers nevertheless have difficulties when you are trying to capture what has started life as DV format video in your camera, into mpeg-2 video on the fly. The capture and conversion process is complex and very demanding, and it often falls over.

If you are in fact capturing to DV format, you might want to check the Encoder Type in the Options cogwheel icon on the Capture page. Again, while your computer should be up to the job of capturing Type 2 Encoded DV, if it is set to Type 2, change it to Type 1 and see if that makes a difference.

Ultimately, you might need to check your firewire cable and make sure it is firmly seated at both ends. If you have a friend who has a cable, borrow it to test it.

Thanks for the reply I'm coming it to a DV format, I tried all the others and it didn't work...
For some reason when I do this on my brothers account on my computer it works but on my windows account it messes up, like I said it worked before I don't know what happened that made it not work now.

Have you tried switching between the DV Encoder types as I suggested? VS seems to use Type 2 as the default on installation until you change it; yet it is Type 2 which seems to cause people the most problems...

Yep I tried both Type 1 and Type 2.. after about 30 secs into the video it just displays it again... "The file was corrupt..."
