Video Studio and .mov files
My .mov movie clips will not work in Video Studio 9 with Quicktime 7 installed. When playing clips in the project mode sound consists of static only. When playing clips in the clip mode the sound is fine. The fix on my Windows XP machine was to uninstall Quicktime 7 and install Quicktime 6.5. I now have a laptop with Vista as the operating system. Quictime 6.5 is not compatible with Vista and shuts Video Studio down. The end result is I am not able to use Video Studio with Vista and .mov files. Is there any solution to this dilemma? Ulead tech support is of no help.[/quote]

You would not be able to use VS9 with Vista in any case. Even VS10 was only compliant with Vista (sort of) by using a patch. VS11 is however Vista compliant.
The solution you found to your dilemma was that discovered by others as well (myself included at the time).
And I am not sure that Apple is yet confident that its latest QT offering is fully compliant with Vista either. Their website still asks for feedback from people using the latest version of QT with Vista.
That being said, I have had no problems in my limited usage of .mov files using the latest version of QT Pro with VS11+ on a Vista Home Premium computer.

You can try using a 3rd-party program to convert the file before importing the file into Video Studio. SUPER is a FREE conversion program, and it should be able to convert your file to MPEG-2. However, it cannot convert files to DV (the most trouble-free format) and I'm not sure if SUPER runs on Vista.

My point was that the latest QT (whether Pro or normal) appears to work so far with standard .mov files on Vista; and they also appear to work with VS11+, which is Vista compliant.
But if you are seeking to run them on Vista using VS9, then VS9 won't work anyway because it is not Vista compliant...

OK -- I hadn't realised you have VS11+ as you had only mentioned VS9.
I don't know what they problem might be. I have QT 7.1.5 Pro and it seems to work fine. It could be some of the extra features of the Pro version, I don't know. For instance, the ordinary version does not have the capacity, as far as I am aware, to create video using the H.264 codec (although VS11+ is supposed now to have that capacity built-in). The ordinary version of QT can handle H.264-encoded video, but cannot encode in it. And there are other differences. But I confess I don't know if any of them might be sufficient to cause this difference in performance.

I have the same problem. I downloaded the Videostudio 11plus today and had QT 7.1.6 already istalled on my pc. My operating system is windows XP. When playing clips in the project mode sound consists of static only. When playing clips in the clip mode the sound is fine...
Previously, I had Adobe Premiere installed but I removed it completely before I downloaded VideoStudio. Could that have anything to do with it? And does anyone know a way to fix this please?
Thank you,
Tasha

I have spoken to ULead tech support twice and they have not been able to help. I have also spoken to Apple Quicktime. They are sympathetic, but feel it is not there proble. ULead owns the problem and is either unable to solve it, or doesn't want to be bothered. I uninstalled Quicktime 7.1 and reinstalled Quicktime 6.5 and the problem went away.

Perhaps the famous (in these forums, at least) "MOV patch" will help?
(http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 2298#62298)
Or, another user discovered this solution:
First convert the MOV file to AVI using the "MP4Cam2AVI" converter program (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi)
(see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 543#110543 for the settings that are required).

For .mov issues, please download the following file and save it (overwrite) to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 9.0\VIO" directory. ftp://userdl:guest@ftpph.ulead.com/uvqt.vio Make sure VideoStudio is not running before applying the patch.
