If you have ordered the boxed edition, then it probably has not yet come into stock. I think only the download versions are available as yet ... unless the boxed edition has in fact become available (though I am not sure it has) and there has been a run on it...

Yes I have just tried to order the boxed version and received the "No Stock" message - It appears quite normal for the boxed version not to be available anywhere for a month or so following it's "Release"

I am not going to purchase the download version
I am not going to purchase the download version
I am not going to purchase the download version
I am NOT going to purchase the download version

just have to keep telling myself.

The boxed version IS available in the USA. I ordered it on May 8 and it arrived a few days ago.
I'm a newbie so I ordered the boxed versions of PI12 and VS11+ so that I can have printed manuals to refer to. I like to read the manuals, annotate pages, insert page flags, etc. Anyway, I am pleased with the PI manual, but very disappointed with the VS manual. The VS manual is small, about half that of the PI manual. Consequently, the text size is small (6 pt at most) and the graphics are obviously small also.

Is there a reason for not purchasing the download version? I have always purchased the box, but in going from VS10 to 11 I don't see any significant difference in what's in the manual and I think the shipping charge is excessive.

Is there anything in the boxed version that would not be downloadable?

Over the time that I have been posting on Ulead Forums (both this one and the previous ones) I have noticed that a very large number of people who report problems with VideoStudio are people who have downloaded their copy.

Problems range from actual problems with the download - often involving prolonged discussion with Ulead to get a further download, through problems with installation - maybe due to a corrupt download but it seems often just problems with installing the download - to problems with using the programme because it has not installed properly.

I also had some problems with the download of version 7 so when version 8 came along I purchased discs and had no problems at all so I vowed to always buy disc versions in future - and I have never ever had a problem with VideoStudio since that time.

It is also very easy to do a reinstall or repair when a computer problem (like a complete failure of my hard drive last year) does occur - I just don't think I want any un-necessary agro.

As to extras which are not downloadable - I remember a copy of Ulead Cool 3D on one of the disc sets which had no expiry date - and a copy of InterVideo Win DVD on another without any timeout or restrictions.

Just my personal observations and the decision I have made.

In the past, I have followed BrianCee's line of thought and stuck to boxed versions. This time, though, I was anxious to get a Vista-compliant version of VS on a new Vista computer I had bought. So I went for the download version. Had no problems with either the download or installation and -- touch wood -- all seems to be working so far.

And, of course, the first thing I did was burn the three downloaded files to 2 back-up CDs (they were just a tad too large to fit on one...)

I would probably still be dubious, though, about the Try Before You Buy, then activate, option.

I don't know what is downloadable, but here is what's on the boxed discs:

Basic Disc: VS11+ and Utilities (Windows Media Format, Acrobat Reader, MS Directx, Apple QuickTime, Flash Player, Indeo)

Bonus Disc: WinDVD8 Silver, Ulead Disc Image Recorder, plus several Audio, Image, and Video clips.

Of course, you also get the printed manual.
