etech6355,

You mentioned somewhere else in this forum a method for setting up a unique folder to keep these Ulead program conflicts from happening.

How might I accomplish that with DVD Workshop 2?

Can you give me some steps?

I've never tried that kind of thing before.

Ulead, please get us a patch for the DVD Workshop 2 that won't be obliterated by the installation of VideoStudio 11 Plus and vice-versa.

Videocatcher can't import DVD/VR into VS11 PLUS.

Hellow Jerry, and all other participants. I,ve just read all the feedback comments, and from what is said so far , i can understand the points Jerry raised making sense and being quite valid. I should raise this issue with Ulead support directly to see if they can be of any help as well.To help clarify my problem, please allow me to give more background in regards my case. 1. I own three computers that are not linked at all. 2.i use one of the computers for video activities only. 3. this computer is not in any way linked to the internet, and has never been linked to the internet, 4. i have never installed any antivirus software of any description at any time on this computer. That includes firewall or spyware software as well.(except for existing Windows Firewall which is not connected at the moment. 5. I could list all the technical specs of this computer, but for now, it's a poweful, top working system that so far has met all my video needs. 6. I have made sure so far that i've kept a bare minimum of other programs on this computer so as to keep it running lean for maximum reserve power for doing video editing and authoring projects. 7. About 2 years ago, i kicked off by buying a brand new boxed version od Ulead Movie Factory 4 . I've installed and used the program over the last couple of years with good success. (except for sound /sync problems, and that's another story) 8. So far my main activity has been the need to transfer my personal collection of ageing Australian VHS PAL video tapes to DVD-R format.(recorded off the local TV stations.) 9. I purchased an LG DVD/VHS combo recorder to initially transfer the tape content to a blank Verbatim dvd-rw disc . thiis was recorded inVR mode, was initialised, and was left open. Using the LG was always successful for me and i've always gotten excellent results. 10. I could always bring the discs into this computer, and with MF4, open the disc and easily capture the contents onto the hard drive. 11.Last week, i installed a trial version of VIDEO STUDIO 11 PLUS onto the same computer, and whammo! both Ulead programs stopped me from loading any disc content (DVD-RW/VR mode only) into them. ON the surface it would seem their is definately a conflict problem happening here. As to why, and how to overcome it, will require more experimenting and reserch on my part.I was under the assumption that one could use more than 1 Ulead product on your computer at a time, and they would interact harmoniously together.Am i wrong? 12. I wound my computer back to the time just before i instslled VS11PLUS, and hey presto! Movie Factory 4 works like a charm again. Thanks for your feed back so far Jerry. If you have any further comments to add, i would welcome your input.Kind Regards,Greg(Videocatcher)

You may not have to roll back your computer. You need to have the proper files that MF4 uses for importing dvd's. If you install the patches to MF4 they should replace and correct the file(s) that import dvd's (which are located in the "Common Files" Folder) that MF4 uses. (This depends on the patches script file). Installing MF4 patches will replace these importing files (the dll's) with the ones compatible with MF4.

Also you say that the dvd-rw's are not finalized, this also depends on the dvd-rw spec version your using. Many of mine after I finalize once, then reformat and record any the Sony recorder won't let me finalize it, the icon is greyed out. Sounds like you have "Data-Add2" installed with MF4's packet writing software to be able to read a dvd-rw in -VR mode that's un-finalized. If not then your using dvd-rw's that are the latest & greatest spec.
I don't think that VS11+ could affect this packet writing software but you may need to check it.

Like I previously posted, it would seem very hard or next to impossible to beta-test a program and duplicate/simulate all the possible scenarios one could have when many programs are sharing common files.
Jerry's and yours are good examples.

Install VS10+ and HDV capture works, Install MF5+ and VS10+ HDV capture doesn't work but MF5+ works, according to others then install MSP8 with it's patches and all 3 programs can capture HDV. Appears to me that the programmers that program MSP8 look for these conflicts and write backward compatible DLL's for the ulead common files shared folders.

I just did another test.

I rolled back the computer to the point immediately prior to installing any Ulead video programs.

I then installed in this order:

1. Video ToolBox
2. MediaStudio Pro 8
3. Sony Picture Motion Browser
4. Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus

NO INSTALLATION OF DVD WORKSHOP

5. Kaspersky Security 6 + all service packs and updates

I then checked to see if Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus's "IMPORT FROM DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in was working correctly AND IT WAS!!

So now my opinion is that the culprit is ULEAD DVD WORKSHOP 2!

And your theories about the common folder are probably 100% correct.

And I would bet Ulead could confirm this if they cared to try.

If this DVD WORKSHOP 2/VIDEOSTUDIO 11 PLUS conflict theory can be verified, then this points to the need for Ulead to put more emphasis on internal quality control and to at least TRY not to release products that are incompatible with each other.

I've decided to do without DVD Workshop 2.0 -- even though I paid for it in hopes of having functional subtitle capability.

VIDEOCATCHER'S DVD/VR CAPTURE PROBLEM.

Post by videocatcher »

Thanks for your feedback etech 6355 and Jerry. Basically, i've got two options here. 1. I need to experiment more, eg: install the service pak for MF4 and try everything again. 2. talk directly with Ulead to resolve this issue. It begs the question, how i would go if i installed MF5 or MF6 for a better compatability experience.Who knows? I find the whole thing a big time wasting bore. Also etech, as i said, i use Verbatim DVD-RW blank discs to record my VHS material. I record in VRmode. I initialize the disc first , record my material, and don't close the disc when finished. I may have data add installed to MF4 at present. After i've finished with any disc, i fully slow erase it in Nero Express program on my computer, an am able to reuse that disc to record new material on my LG set top recorder.I've had no problems with this system in the past. After i do more investigation, i'll let you know how i got on. Regards Greg(Videocatcher) Brisbane, Australia.

etech6355,

Question for you.

Would this idea be a possible fix for the conflict between DVD Workshop 2 and VideoStudio 11 Plus?

What if I were to create a new USER ACCOUNT in Windows XP Home that would specify a unique USER ID for DVD Workshop 2.

Would that force the program to keep its patch files to itself?

What do you think?

Jerry,
Conflict or an incompatible file that they both share, I guess it's the same thing.
I don't think you can isolate files in the common directory for profiles.

You should only need to isolate WS2, is somewhat of a hassle but WS2 is the only one you would have to copy/rename in that directory. But, of course you will do the same as me and forget the reset the common files directory :)
Like I said mine is a workaround, it does work for me though. I don't have to many ulead products installed and only isolate the ones that do have a problem.

Using VS11+ I had problems writing back to tape on the HC3. The video would pause every few frames while recording to the tape & playback from the recorded tape. I disabled SmartRender (took much longer to construct a new TS file), then wrote that to the HC3 and it worked.
