Making Stars Twinkle

This is probably simple- but I have not figured it out. I have a nice image of a night sky and would like to make the stars come to life and make them twinkle- How can I get MSP8 to help me do that?

Gawd - that seems like a lot of messing about. I'd just use a noise filter to make a monochrome video matte, then use that as an overlay for the starry sky.
