VS9 Lazy DVD Chapter Buttons

Post by dazzler »

Hi All,
I have completed editing my video, created an MPEG2 file and tried to create Chapter points, but ran into trouble. I'm using VS9 and cannot get my 4 thumbnail DVD Chapter button videos to work.

All goes well as far as selecting the scenes to be used for the buttons as well as selecting the background they are superimposed on.

Once I click on NEXT to bring up the Ulead Player screen only the PLAY and STOP work and then only the first scene (ie the entire video) plays. No menu buttons are highlighted on the player and if any are pressed nothing happens.

I'm using VideoStudio 9.00.0000 and I believe it's an SE version but it doesn't say so in ABOUT. I'm using it on an ACER Aspire 360, AMD A64 X2 3800+ dual-core computer with 1 GB memory. Also I don't remember if I patched it some time ago or not and can't find anything in ABOUT to tell me if it has any patches applied.

I'm baffled and hope someone out there can help me. Thanks in advance for any helpful ideas you may have.

If I understand correctly, you have 1 video that you divided into 4 chapters, correct? You should then have 1-Main Menu, and 1 Chapter Menu correct? Pressing the thumbnail button in the Main Menu, should take you to the Chapter Menu, where your 4 Chapter Menu buttons are. When you press a chapter menu button it does not start playing from that chapter? It may be that you need to install the updates/patches.

If you purchased your version of VS9, and if it is patched, the splash screen will be blue, and not red. The version should show 9.00.1000. If it is in fact an SE, version that came bundled with hardware, then the patches will not install.

Hi Videoman,
Sorry for my delayed response to your comments concerning my DVD menu problem in VS9. This has been a wonderful long-weekend here in Ottawa with Spring breaking out in many colors everywhere and certainly a time to forget about computers for awhile.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, a main menu thumbnail appears and when it is clicked, it brings up the sub-menu with four thumbails. Clicking on any of these four thumbnails should take me directly to that thumbnails location on the video - but doesn't.

I checked ABOUT on VS9 and found the version to be 9.00.0000, so I downloaded and installed Update Pack UVS9FULL-Patch1-5in1.exe (18.9 mb). Also, I'm using an upgrade to VS9 FULL (not SE version)

After a restart, the VS9 version remained at 9.00.0000. Also no change (improvement in behaviour) was noticed. The Ulead player doesn't permit an opportunity to select the menu item by number either.

So something seems missing in the final stages of menu creation to make the menu buttons (thumbnails) function properly.

Any ideas Videoman ... especially why the VS9 version number doesn't change either. Thanks.
