A couple of possibilities... What exactly are you connecting the EasyCAP to -- an analogue camera? A VCR? And which of the connections are you using -- the RCA red/white/yellow cords, or the S-Video and red/white RCAs?

And do you by chance have it plugged into a USB hub, or directly into a USB port in your computer? If it's in a hub, it may not be getting the power to work it.

I was attempting to run it off the yellow and white cables connected to my old analogue video camera. These are the only outputs from my camera. Looking at the USB that it is running off i think it is the HUB, how to i find the main USB connections? Is it just a case of plugging it into all the sockets,
Thankyou for your help, you dont know how hard it is to find any sort of assistiant on this matter!

If it is a USB hub with, for example, 4 or 6 USB sockets on it, it should itself be connected to the computer via a USB cable.

What you have to do is find a spare USB port in the computer itself and plug the EasyCAP into that.

Okay, I have 4 USB sockets at the back of the computer and 2 on the front, the 2 on the front dont seem to be functioning but the 4 at the back do. I know the computer was built from scratch, could it be the they used the 4 at the back off the hub? will my easycap work off a hub?

I think we are talking at cross purposes. A USB hub is something you buy, and is connected EXTERNALLY to your computer via one of the computer's existing USB ports (i.e. one of the 4 at the back) via a USB cable. The purpose of a hub is to give you extra USB ports to if you have already connected all the existing ones in the computer.

So exactly how have you been connecting the EasyCAP to the computer? To one of the front ones (which do not seem to work?) Or to one of the back ones?

And can you confirm that your computer's USB ports are USB 2.0 and not 1.0? If they are only 1.0, then the EasyCAP may not work with them.

I have been plugging it into one of the USB in the back of the pc. The light on the easycap comes on. I have just plugged it into another pc using the drivers that were supplied on the dick and got exactly the same message come up - the device is not recongised, Is there a website where i can download the drivers for it?

As far as I can work out, the driver is on the same disc as VS8 SE DVD which came with the device. I found this on one site which sells the device:
Package Contents:

1. EasyCAP USB 2.0 Video Adapter with Audio
2. USB Cable
3. User Manual
4. CD-ROM (included driver and the professional video editor software
But you still have not answered whether your computer uses USB 1 or 2... The EasyCAP only works with USB 2.0.

In Windows 2000, and I think XP, go to START / CONTROL PANEL / Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Device Manager / and then click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Something there should say USB 2.0 Root Hub. If you do not see that you will have to install the USB 2 drivers. Check the book that came with your mother board. They should be available there based on the chip set.

I built my machine two years ago and then bought a 500Gb external drive. Took me awhile to figure out why this drive was soooooo slow. I had to install the USB 2 drivers myself.
