plain english please

Anyone please tell me, wanting to get some exploding etc letters, so and so productions you know the usual guff!...but have a backdrop of one of my films.

So, do i create the production lettering, save as, and transport it to VS, and use chromakey etc to get the titles on top of my images.

Or...is there a much better way.

And, whats the best way i can save a file in Cool in order to get the best quality out of it in VS.
