no capture driver is available error message

Post by treefrog »

Hi guys - I've got a Sony HDR SR1 Hi Def hard drive camcorder. Being a hard drive cam the theory goes that importing and moving files should be as simple as browsing to an external hard drive. However when I try and capture footage from the Cam In Ulead Movie Factory plus 6, the error message " No Capture Driver Available". This is incrediblely annoying because these cams don't need capture drivers - it uses a USB cable..

Anyway I contacted Sony and they said
"Thank you for your enquiry regarding your Sony HDR-SR1E AVCHD camcorder.

The Sony HDR-SR1E is supplied with "Picture Motion Browser" software to enable the user to transfer images and video from the AVCHD camcorder to a computer, it is regret that we are unable to offer advice on the use of third party software.

If a user with administrative rights connects the camcorder to one of the USB ports in a computer, and then another user with administrative rights connects it to another USB port, the driver may not be installed. In this case, using the same USB port as the previous user will solve the problem.

Please ensure that the "Picture Motion Browser" software is installed on your computer, prior to connecting your Sony HDR-SR1E to your computer, once this has been done you may need to restart your computer and the connect your Sony HDR-SR1E Camcorder to the computer and at this point the required driver should be installed automatically.

I apologise that I am unable to be of more direct assistance, I trust however that this information will be of use to you."

As you can see, that answer is *** bollocks. (pardon my french), but I'm now suspecting the problem lies with Ulead's software. Who's at fault??
