Aloha!
After discovering that MF5 would be able to capture using a PVR-350 I noticed something missing. VS - when using an ATI AIW card - has an area where you can actually change the capture resolution. However, since no version of VS would recognise our PVR-350, we tried MF5+ which *seemed* to work. However, it turns out that may not be the case after all.
After I noted Steve's Excellent guide on capturing VHS with a Hauppauge card, I noted that there were some things missing in my "Advanced Settings". The only choices there are "Video Properties" and "Select Device Control". I don't see any "Capture Options" or "Capture Properties". Thus, it would seem there is no way to change the capture properties?
Am I missing something here? Shouldn't there be a way to change the properties when you record/capture? It seems the program does record, but I guess I won't know what properties I'll end up with until I bring the clip up in the application and check.
I see nothing on this in the manual.
Could this problem be related to not being able to get any version of VideoStudio to work with this card?
Thank you for any help on this.

I think after installing the updates to MF5 you should be able to capture with the Hauppauge cards. I think that using the software that came with it would be a better choice, then import the videos into MF5.
In MF5 you can create Templates, so create a template in the regular timeline. When you go into the Capture screen then you can use this template.
There are some limitations doing this with a hardware compression based card. When you create the template to apply in the capture module the settings need to be compatible with the hardware encoder chips on these PVR cards. Mpeg audio (usually @ 224kbs), 720x480 FrameSize and the video bit rate of VBR@6000kbs should be compatible. You can also try VBR@8000kbs.
I know the audio must be mpeg and you would have to choose a video_bit_rate that is compatible with the chips on the card. Maybe test it using whole numbers like 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000 etc.
Hope this helps

I hadn't realised there was any type of patch for Hauppauge. Guess we missed it.etech6355 wrote:I think after installing the updates to MF5 you should be able to capture with the Hauppauge cards. Thank you very much for this info. We will try it along with the DirectX updates that another gratious user mentioned in the VS forum, if necessary.
