Hi,
I am pulling my hair out here with trying to install WinDVD 8. I have written in these forums back in April and have have 2 responses from Technical Support but am still in the same situation.
Everytime I try to install WinDVD it exits Setup at the point where it is asking to install Feb 2006 DirectX Web update (Installation of Dx has failed. Setup will now exit). If I try to cancel this part of the install then the whole Setup exits.
I have tried all the suggestions from this forum given by sjj1805 (installing DirectX, Java and C++ redistributables), tried the registry clean but that is only applicable to a reinstall (I am doing a clean install), and most recently downloaded Release 3 of the Trial Install but all end the same way.
Anyone shed some light on this for me, esp other Vista Ultimate users.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I had the same problem yesterday and found out a solution: The installer finally worked when I started it not only "as administrator" but also from my administrator user account in Windows Vista. Then it is able to install this Feb 2006 DirectX thing, but make sure you have opened an internet connection before.
Step by step:
- boot vista and log into your administrator account
- establish an internet connection
- start WinDVD8.exe as administrator
This worked with Windows Vista Ultimate (German)
