Erratic playback

Post by G-Davies »

Question about MSP8 playback with HD footage from a Sony HDV.

I am using MSP 8 which plays the MPEG2 files in the source window very smoothly so cropping is a dream but when I switch to the preview window either full screen or instant play the picture is very erratic and not smooth, I have tried lots of different setting but still no joy any suggestions, I am using an HP Intel E6600 2gig ram and 512 ATI 1650 graphics.

Also no picture in the playback window when I select quick play.

I have found the problem, I have applied video filters to my footage for consistent exposure and although my system has a fair amount of power (Intel E6600) its still not enough to render the filters in MSP8 and play smoothly in the preview window or full screen has anyone got an answer for this?

The preview in MSP will only get limited resources because it is just that, a preview. When you render your clip to a new file it should be ok.

Sounds Worrying, is there any way I can change MSP system preferences to resolve, a smooth playback is the clever bit to get perfectly edited result.

Isn't this the ideal reason for Proxy files? They are (user-definable) lo-res versions of your files so that you can work on a less-than-ideal PC and still get decent preview and real-time effects. When you come to render the final output the original hi-res files will be used. This does mean you need more disc space as you have your hi-res originals and a lo-res working copy.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Hope that helps

How can you change the default settings, I¡¦m working on an Intel E6600 with 512 ATI graphics and a lot of very fast ram and SATA disc access, so why is it slow.

I¡¦m aware of the proxy files when I load a video file, which the computer flies through due to its power it¡¦s the very poor erratic preview that¡¦s the problem especially when you apply video effects, you will laugh at it if you¡¦re used to working on Avid or any Mac based video machine with the same hardware.

I¡¦ve made some improved progress, I have turned the proxy file facility off so I¡¦m just using the computer raw power and even with video effects applied I thing I can live with the results.
If I use the proxy facility with a very low setting it only gives me the same preview results as the original hi-res files so I will work with the original hi-res mpeg files for a better editing result.

Improved means to unimproved ends?

Hello,

I'am also working with HDV, and I use almost the same hardware. E660 etc. The loading of a DVP takes a long time and the rendering also. Do I something Wrong?

Thanks.

I am using a HP machine so fairly well sorted and stable, what you are using.

My project files load very fast even when using proxy files on any setting. The rendering is slower so I will post some results when a get a chance.
