MovieFactory 6 doesn't convert video files

Post by Demon »

Hi all.

I've a strange question:

my moviefactory 6 doesn't convert any video file into dvd video. I can insert media files and create chapters, I also create menus, but when I start to convert and burn files the progress bar doesn't move, or it's very very slow...I mean that in 3 hours the progress bar completes only 3% !!!

I've tried to change media files, tried to create dual layer, but I've obrained the same result...

Anyone can help me?

Thank you :)

What format are you converting from? Where did the files come from? Can you re-capture in a different format? The Read This First post tells you what we need to know in order to help you.

You can try using a 3rd-party program such as SUPER (FREE!!!) to convert your files to DVD compatable MPEG-2. You can look at one of the Movie Factory Project-Templates to find the settings (resolution, framerate, bitrate, etc) for a DVD compatible MPEG-2 file.

You may have a corrupt video file. A "bad" file will often play-back OK, but cause trouble when you try to convert it, edit it, or make a DVD from it. The more-compressed formats seem more prone to this "sneaky corruption". AVI/DV files from a MiniDV camera (13GB per hour) rarely cause trouble. (Note that not all AVI files are DV. And AVI file can use any type of compression from DV to DivX.)

Movie Factory can convert from many different formats, but there are lots of formats and lots of variations of each format. If you are converting from a highly-compressed format such as DivX or Xvid... Lots of Ulead users have trouble with DivX/Xvid files. (But, not all DivX files cause trouble...)

Thank you for your replies :)

I've used mpg and avi files, created with xvid codecs. I'm sure they aren't corrupted 'cause I've converted them with Nero Vision express 4 without any problem.

I've tried to convert videos for all night long and MF6 finished the operation, but about 12 hours for the entire convertion!!!

I've used medium quality (4000kbps and 720x576 format), 8 media files ( using a 8,5gb dvd video) and a simple menu template.

Is it possible that the rendering time is 12 hours?

I have a amd opteron dual core, with 2gb ram and geforce 6800 ultra, so I don't think my computer isn't much powerful..

P.S.: i'm really sorry for my poor english :(

Yes it is possible. You are editing and converting a format that is not intended for editing. Xvid is a very highly compressed format. Try doing as DVDDoug suggested, convert your Xvid video files using Super, to MPEG-2 (DVD Compliant MPEG-2), before bringing them into DVDMF. I think your conversion using Super will be much quicker, and then when you create your DVD, it will not take nearly as long.
