Hi,
as far as I know there is only one video editing application in the world which can handle an interlaced video as progressive, this is MSP 7.0's Video Editor. I mean if I slow an interlaced video down to 50% it won't drop the consecutive frames, but separates the fields and and slows it down to 25fps as it was progressive. This results in an excellent looking smooth motion.
My question is that do you know why it was removed from MSP 8.0 and another: why MSP 8.0 is much slower than 7.0 while it hasn't got many new features, except enabling HDV editing and nice-looking GUI (which in my opinion slows it down a lot), why performance and focusing to the point (video editing) aren't the first considerations than the look of the interface.
Thanks!
Leslie S.
MSP 7.0/8.0 feature comparsion by interlaced format-handling
Am not sure what you mean by your first paragraph.
Your second paragraph is just nonsense:
a) it is not slower
b) it has LOTS of new features (e.g., transitions on all tracks, auto-transitions, brand new titler, multiple timelines, effects manager, auto-music, smart compositor, new colour wheel etc. Just look at http://www.ulead.com/msp/compare.htm

I agree with the Leslie. The GUI has slowed MSP8 down considerably. It's not particularly flashy, either - it's just it seems to be redrawn from within MSP rather than using the Windows APIs.
MSP8 still separates out the fields when you slow down the footage. What it also does is display the preview window deinterlaced - with no option to turn this "feature" off. This "dumbing down" of the program means that when viewing the slowed down footage, you don't see the separated fields.
Render a slowed segment out to AVI and then load it onto the timeline, you'll see that the fields are indeed separated when you go from frame to frame.
