1. What video source are you capturing from?
2. What capture device are you using?
3. How is the capture device connected to your PC?
4. What format and resolution are you capturing in?

One thing I can tell you off the bat is that you shouldn't be outputting to MPEG1 if you intend to create a DVD later -- this will require transcoding to MPEG2 format. MPEG1 simply doesn't support the high data rates and resolutions required for DVDs, and this is most likely a big part of your problem.

Everything you ever wanted to know can be found HERE. Avoid using MPEG1, select NTSC or PAL DVD (depending on your local TV standard) instead when creating your output file.

Also be aware that if you are using an SE version of VS 7, it may not allow you to either produce or burn an MPEG-2 file. As one of our colleagues has recently pointed out, SE means 'Simple Edition', and this really means it is crippled in some way. The problem is that there are a variety of SE versions out there, and I can't say for sure what might be missing if you are using one.

AND NTSC OR PAL WHAT SHOULD I USE IF I,M MAKING A DVD SHOULD I CHECK VCD AND WHAT SHOULD I PUT FOR NTSC OR PAL. FOR LAST NIGHT,S DVD, ICHECK VCD AND PUT NTSC. AS FAR AS QUIALTY WERE SHOULD IT BE FOR A 60 MIN DVD. THANKS FRANK.

VCDs don't have anywhere near the quality of DVDs -- stay away from them. That's why you get a fuzzy picture when you play them on your TV.

The video standard you must use (NTSC or PAL) depends on your location. Since we don't know where you live, we can't help you there.

NTSC is correct for the US, so you are OK there.

Whether your existing MPEG file is suitable for creating a full-quality DVD depends on its properties. To get the best quality, it should be MPEG2 at a resolution of 720x480, 6000Kbps or above. If the MPEG file uses a lower resolution or a low bitrate, you will still be able to create a DVD from it, but the video quality will disappoint.
