DVD Menu In VS10+

Post by Para928 »

Hi

I have been using VS9 and 10+ for a couple of years now and have managed to cope OK by trial and error, and by checking out the posts in this forum on a regular basis.

I have now, however, come across a problem that I can't find an answer for so was wondering if the wealth of knowledge here might be able to help.

Yesterday I downlaoded (at a price) some menus,, motion menus and motion backgrounds for a wedding DVD I am doing for my niece.

All seemed OK until I tried to change some of the text on the menu itself and found that I could not select it. I have contacted the web site that I got the menus from and they have suggested that the frame layer has been brought forward, preventing me from highlighting the text layer, and that I should try sending it to the back.

Try as I might - and believe me I have tried - I cannot see any options that would allow me to do this. As a regular user of Photoshop I am aware of layers so would have thought I would have known it if I saw it, however I am looking forward to being proved wrong if that is the case.

Any suggestions as to how I should proceed would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Kenny

You haven't actually told us where you got the menus from or what format they are in, but to work correctly in VideoStudio they should have a .ufo extension.

Changes to a .ufo format file can only be carried out in Ulead PhotoImpact - not in photoshop.

Thanks for the reply.

I got the menus from a company called Visions-UK and they are in .ufo format.

Some of the text on the menus can be selected in the same way that you can change them in the Smart menus - its just the important bit - i.e. names and dates - that cannot. I have since had another reply from the comapny saying that if I right click on an object I can arrange it so it is in the background, thereby bringing the text to the front, I will then be able to select it. (I am familiar with this method from work I do in Photoshop)
Does this sound like it is an option that I would have in PhotoImpact because it isn't one that I am aware of in videoStudio

No within VideoStudio itself you cannot re-arrange layers - there is quite a bit you can do in VideoStudio like moving and hiding objects to make the menu look different but not change the fundamental template.

Ulead Photo Impact on the other hand will allow full editing of a .ufo file - in fact it will even allow you to make new menu templates from scratch - have a look here :-

I have just downloaded the trial version of PhotoImpact and what you suggested worked a treat. Many thanks for that.
I will now probably lose the next 30 days of my life finding my way round this new program to decide if I want to buy it or not.
The test will be how it performs against my old faithful Photoshop.
Many thanks again
