DVD plays on player but not on PC

Post by Archer »

DVDXpress DX2 is my product. I have been using Video Studio 9SE to capture my vhs rather that the cap wiz, since vs does a better job. I have created multiple DVD's that play on my DVD player, but do not show up on my computer. Note: I have dvd player on my computer. I have tried to copy the working dvd via disc copy on Roxio, and the dvd doesn't show up on my computer. It say's no disc, Help! What have I done wrong? How do I make copies of the working dvd at this point when my pc doesn't see it?????

Thanks,

Archer

I am surprised there has been no reply to this post.

I have just had a client tell me that whilst we looked at the final, burned DVD from a VS10+ project here on my standard DVD player before she took it away with her (and it played just fine), when she put it in her DVD player at home it wouldn't work, so she tried it in her new laptop and it worked but no sound.

The project was burned as MPEG2 on to Imation 16x DVD+R

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

Peta,

Your problem is much more common than Archer's. Some stand-alone players simply can't play "burned" DVDs. Some players can play DVD-R, but not DVD+R, or vice-versa. Your odds are usually best with DVD-R, and your odds are worst with dual-layer burned discs. (All players can play commercially stamped dual-layer discs.)
so she tried it in her new laptop and it worked but no sound.
What format was the sound? Does her laptop have DVD player software? I assume so. But, if she's using Windows Media Player, it requires a 3rd-party codec to play Dolby audio.

Hi Doug

Thanks for the reply. This is a real concern to me as I am doing 3 fair sized projects for this customer, all of which she wants/needs to be able to see on her equipment (quite rightly). She is not technically savvy, and her son has already told her that some DVD's don't work in some players. That said, it's no good my spending time and her spending money to have me create something she can't watch or hear !

The sound in the project is PCM 48Khz 16 bit stereo. She wouldn't know what DVD software she has on her laptop or how to get codecs - maybe her son can help her with that.

In over 200 DVD's supplied to customers this is the first time this has happened. I was reading in the forum overnight (couldn't sleep) that DVD+R is a better standard, but maybe I should burn her a DVD - R !!

Thanks

And as we regularly tell people, even though you are using 16x blank discs, that does not mean you should necessarily burn your DVDs at that speed. Selecting a much lower speed (say 6x), will often give the burning laser a better chance of embedding a signal which has a greater chance of being read by a wider range of stand-alone DVD players.

Thanks Ken - Yes I was reading that during my wee small hours sleepless search of the forum, and I have lowered the speed to 4x (it only offers me 4x, 8x, 12x etc - no 6x).

I am now burning a TDK DVD-R, we will see if that works.

By the way I changed my DVD burner from a Sony to a Pioneer, but VS 10+ still says the old Sony DVD RW DW-G1204 MYS2 is the burner ??? Where can i change that information or does it not matter at all?

Thanks for the help

Find out what DVD player your client has and try to match the media here.
