The Sony Picture Motion Browser software imports the AVCHD from an *unfinalized* DVD+RW disc here.
So when I get home, I'll finalize that disc.
Perhaps VideoStudio 11 Plus requires a finalized disc.
With my old standard definition DVD-RAM camcorder and earlier versions of Ulead software, there was no need for finalization.
The Sony HDR-UX1 AVCHD camcorder doesn't use DVD-RAM.
The Sony HDR-UX1 AVCHD camcorder works with DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW and DVD-RW (and double-layer DVD+R).

Finalization did not result in any improvement.
Same error message.
The "IMPORT FROM DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in seems to be broken.

UPDATE: Fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling VideoStudio 11 Plus.
Now it's working.
More testing to follow.

I have found a method to get a good conversion for quality converting avchd to hd-mpeg2. The quality is good, now if I can get the fielding information to work correctly the video will have smooth motion.
Right now the output looks de-interlaced (frame based) even though I'm encoding to a hd-mpeg2 file using UFF.
Encoding the hd-mpeg2 file as UFF or frame based looks the same, I think it's because VS11+ thinks the original source video is frame based. I think if VS11+ could read the original source as UFF then I can have the correct motion after encoding to a hd-mpeg2 file using UFF.

UPDATE: The "IMPORT FROM DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in wasn't working the first time around for me because I had installed Ulead DVD Workshop 2 *after* I had installed Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus.
Apparently, the two programs overwrite the files of each other.
If you install VideoStudio 11 Plus *last*, then you break the subtitle functionality in DVD Workshop 2.
If you install DVD Workshop 2 *last*, then you break VideoStudio 11 Plus's IMPORT FROM DVD capture plug-in.
I rolled back my computer to the point before I installed any Ulead video programs.
Then I chose not to install DVD Workshop 2.
Then I installed VideoStudio 11 Plus and the capture plug-in is working.

Help
So after reading a bunch of replies throughout this board, I am still confused.
I have a Sony SR1 and almost 100GB of .m2ts files on my computer. Is there nothing I can do with these files? I understand that i need to stop using Picture Motion Browser and import from the camera directly, but I need a solution for these files I already imported. Someone please help. I have a bunch of footage from my kids birth that I would like to put into a DVD and give relatives.
Thanks in Advance.
You can email me directly if you like. rparikian@dreamworks.com

Re: Help
Well, the Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus software can't read the ".M2TS" files captured by the Sony "Picture Motion Browser" software -- at least not here on my computer.raffip wrote:I have a Sony SR1 and almost 100GB of .m2ts files on my computer. Is there nothing I can do with these files?
Until Ulead releases an update to correct that issue, you'll have to re-capture the files on your computer using the Ulead software's "IMPORT FROM DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in.
In the meantime, Pinnacle's Studio 11 Plus Ultimate, which I have also purchased, will import even the ".M2TS" files captured by the Sony "Picture Motion Browser" software.
And this Pinnacle release does seem to be stable here on my computer.

Hi!
Similar problems here, resolved by sheer stubbornness:
Machine 1 - P4 3.2GHz HT, 2GB DDR, Matrox G400 Dual head graphics, blah blah... would see both .MTS & .M2TS files - try to preview - BANG.
Machine 2 - P4 2.8GHz, 1GB DDR, Matrox G550 Dual head graphics - (32MB Non paged memory held back form Windows for reasons I won't bore you with) blah, blah.... crashed every time.
Machine 3 - P4 2.8GHz, 1GB DDR, on-board rubbish graphics card, blah blah... works perfectly!!
back to machine1 (this was not a controlled experiment - just a frustrated shot in the dark):
Removed ULead 10
Removed ULead 11
Replaced Matrox G400 Dual head graphics card with nVidia 6200 dual head (I'm a dveloper, dual head is a must for me!)
Disable MS SQL Server
Re-install ULead 11
Install the Bonus CD - with InterVideo WinDVD
Works perfectly!
Back to Machine 3:
inport a .MTS, export as .M2T
Drop it into machine 2 that is being particularly irritating as it's my main development machine and the one on which I really, realy need this to work. Behaves perfectly.
I conclude:
1. that there is something squiffy with the ULead / codec memory management - the error occurs in h264vdechpdll.dll
2. I shouldn't have to have done all this to edit a video!!
Good luck everyone.

Sony Hdr-SR1
I have purchased Ulead Video Studio Plus after briefly running some trial video footage through it via copying the AVCHD directory onto my hard drive and using the DVD import function and it worked fine. Now I have 20 GB of footage from my trip to Africa that I cannot seem to import. Everything appears to go fine up until the 'parse' pop up opens then nothing happens. I even let this run for several hours (being that there are 300 clips) and it shows 0% progress.
Help......
I can still import the 3 small test files that I used before purchasing using the same method.

marskman. I found a possible solution to your problem since I ran into the same thing. Except when parse popped up, VS11+ crashed.Everything appears to go fine up until the 'parse' pop up opens then nothing happens.
Turns out I had a bad index file on my camcorder. Not sure how it happened. But here's the solution (if I remembered where I saw this I'd give proper credit).
- Copy the HDR-SR1's AVCHD directory to your PC.
- Unplug the camcorder and format the camcorder's drive.
- After formatted, reconnect to the pc.
- Copy the fresh index.bdm file to the same location on the pc. You may want to rename the original file instead of copying over it, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
- Open VS11+, and import from the PC.
Make sure when you copy the index file, it's a fresh one. In other words no video on the camcorder at all or else this won't work.
Another solution is to download the files to the PC using the Sony Software. Then format the drive of the camcorder. Then upload the videos back up to the camera with the Sony Software. This will properly rebuild the index. BUT IT TAKES A LONG LONG LONG TIME. So I'd recommend you try the first option.

Re: Sony Hdr-SR1
Is there a chance you installed DVD Workshop 2 after you installed VideoStudio 11 Plus?
We've confirmed that doing so breaks the "Import From DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in.
Reinstalling VideoStudio 11 Plus restores functionality to the plug-in, but causes problems with subtitles in DVD Workshop 2.

I will try your solution javaman. However, I bought Nero 7 Ultimate and the files imported in it just fine.javaman70 wrote:marskman. Jerry,
I don't have that program installed.
Thanks for your suggestions.
