capture doesn't work for me either
would love to be able to try this great looking product but can't load in even one minute of avchd video from Sony HDR SR1 or it's files. VS11 just crashes each time.

Re: capture doesn't work for me either
Did you guys tried importing the clip via "Import from DVD-R/VR"? The AVCHD directory structure is treated as a Blue-ray disc. Oh, if you are using SR1 (which I had and sold), don't bother importing with the Sony software first, which converts the files to non-blueray format (.m2ts).polarwood wrote:would love to be able to try this great looking product but can't load in even one minute of avchd video from Sony HDR SR1 or it's files. Just copy the whole AVCHD directory to your harddisk, and import to VS11+ via import from DVD....

Moderator etech6355 has a lot of knowledge on this. Please view this thread by him:

I found that thread by using the SEARCH feature of the web board, and keyword AVCHD, and on the second line putting etech6355. Of course I know you would have no way of knowing he has posted numerous times about importing or inserting AVCHD files, unless you have browsed the forums.

I've been reading lots of posts, but nothing stops the crash
I've tried copying ALL the files from the SD1 to the hard drive and then opening the directory as in the instructions. I can get it to un-gray the OK button when I select the AVCHD directory, but when I press the button, VS11 pops up a window very quickly and shuts down immediately. I've updated my video drivers, de-installed every other video product I can (the Sony software and a trial of Vegas 7.0e) and re-booted, but it still crashes. Others seem to be getting past this point, so it would seem to be something on my pc that's different somehow, software or hardware (video card? I'm running a GEForce 2 MX, which is a little old.) or ?
Hi!
I've also had problems with IMPORT, but managed to go around it.
If you are unable to import directly, then either copy the entire directory-structure of your camcorder to your computer and try the import like that, or use the Sony software and first import your clips to your computer, then burn it to a regular DVD Disk, and finally import them from the burned disk to VS.
This, and many more of the 'problems' I had and went through from start to finish are there in my post:
What's wrong with VS11+ - http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=22802 - For the IMPORT solution go to Page 5, there are two posts, one around the middle of the page, the other at to bottom.
But there are many more 'interesting' things too...
Good luck!

I get "unspecified error" when I attempt to import from a DVD+RW mini DVD recorded in a Sony HDR-UX1.
The "import DVD" progress bar appears briefly.
Then it disappears.
Then the error message appears.
The Sony software works fine.
VideoStudio 11 Plus seems to be broken.
We need an "import AVCHD" patch.

By the way, Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus refuses to import the .M2TS files!
I get a message that says "file format mismatch!"
So what needs to happen is a patch should be released that allows the "Import From DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in to function correctly.
I suspect if it were working properly, it would convert the transport stream .M2TS AVCHD files into an editable "program stream" HD-MPEG-2 file.
I'm working with a new HDR-UX1 AVCHD camera and a DVD+RW 8cm disc.
It's a shame this wasn't detected during the beta testing.

Also, the Sony software programs on the disc that came with the HDR-UX1 all work fine.
But InterVideo WinDVD 8 also fails to play the raw .M2TS files!

Jerry,
I know you are very familar with VS.
I'm having problems with my hd-mpeg2 files written in TS (transport stream) format. No fielding reported, all my UFF's are reported as frame_based. The new avchd H264.m2t files are in TS format.
I think there is a relation here trying to read the TS format mpeg container.
Even when I import a avchd mini-dvd-rw disk written on a Sony HD cam after importing VS11+ displays no fielding information. MF6+ displays them as Upper_Field_First.
No problems at all with PS format video. Love the new "Mpeg Optimizer"
I have the change project settings activated.
Doesn't work for TS mpeg video, only my PS mpeg files.
My Sony HC3 HighDef Cam captured/transferred no problem.
Some other issues also but using with PS video SD or HD works good.
One thing though cannot set a HDV standard to the project settings:
Mpeg2, 1440x1080, CBR=25000kbs, audio=mpeg@384
Setting 1440x1080 max I can set is 18000kbs.
I can set 1920x1080@25000kbs
If I import the video from the HC3 captured using VS11+ which are CBR@25000kbs VS does change the project settings to CBR@25000kbs and all, just don't hit the "Edit" button or they will be reset to 18000kbs.
The "Mpeg Optimizer" is really nice.
Only problem for me has really been the TS format, probably related to the avchd ts format.

Exactly!
I concur that this would seem to be a "transport stream" issue.
Here, the "Import From DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in is broken; I suspect it is attempting to convert the .M2TS "transport stream" into a "program stream" MPEG in the same way that previous versions of Ulead software convert HDV transport stream files into program stream MPEGs.
The capture driver here -- "Import From DVD/DVD-VR" -- appears to need a patch.
If Ulead can get a patch out for this problem, then the problem will likely be resolved.
It's sad this wasn't detected during the beta testing.
I do remember one of the beta testers requested some .M2TS files from me, but -- at that time -- I didn't have access to an AVCHD camcorder.
Now I do.
And I am hoping for a patch soon.

One idea I haven't tried:
The Sony HDR-UX1 AVCHD camcorder manual suggests that my DVD+RW disc needs to be "finalized."
That step I forgot.
I'm used to using DVD-RAM, which doesn't require finalization.
When I get home, I'll try the finalization procedure and see if that makes a difference for VideoStudio 11 Plus's "IMPORT FROM DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in.

I wrote to Ulead about not being able to import m2ts files
When I was having issues with importing my files to VS11+, I wrote to Ulead and asked why they don't include an import from the .m2ts files. I got a polite note back saying that they'd notify product development, but no mention of having anything soon.
Thankfully I was given some help by Krycek at the camcorderinfo message board and have managed to import most of my footage now. It's a bit of a cluge if you've already used Picture Motion Browser to save your files on your hard drive, but it does work. Instead of using PMB, I suggest just copying the entire file directory across using windows explorer.
Thanks
Ira
