Get error "File Format Mismatch" when loading m2ts

How do I load these without errors into Video Studio to start to work on them? I'm using VideoStudio v11 plus, a trial version I downloaded.

I've been reading several other posts that have had problems loading Sony avchd files, but haven't been able to get any to load.

I've tried:
- copy ALL the files from the hard drive in the camcorder onto my Pc's harddrive, then open VS 11 and try to import DVD. It immediately crashes VS.
- close VS 11, connect my Sony HDR SR1 to the PC. open VS 11 and try to import the files. It immediately crashes VS.
- I un-installed Sony Vegas trial and the software that came with the HDR SR1. Re-tried the 2 attempts above and still crashes VS 11.

My video card is GEForce2 MX, which is fairly old. Do I need a new video card?
