Hi,
first and foremost I am no english native speaker, so please bear with my crude and sloppy english. Also after using the search function I didn't find solutions which would work for my problem. At least that I think would relate to my problem.
I used VS 9 some times already to make some fan-movies or trailers/teasers of games or movies.
So most of my material is .avi .divx .wma .mp3 and the likes.
Recently I started with a new project.
I only added some titles, effects one mp3 soundfile (which I already used sucessful in another fanmovie made with VS 9 last year) and 3 clips (partial clips) all 3 of them .avi
The program starts fine, loads the project just fine.
But soon after I start to time my clips it slows down into a semi-frozen status, soon after that it crashes completely.
If I use the task-manager Ulead uses arround ~700K (?RAM) and the swap-file (? don't know proper english word...the second (yellow)graph in the task manager) goes from usual 300-400 megs to around 1,0-1,1 GB just moments before the crash.
My virtual memory (?) is 2GB min and 4 GB max.
Again sorry for my bad english. If there is something else needed regarding infos, just ask ^^
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help a little computer-newbie making his fan/tributevideos ^^
VS9 crashes after 5 minutes

You may have a corrupt AVI file. A bad file will often play-back OK, but cause trouble when you try to edit it, convert it, or make a DVD out of it. (Some people have had similar trouble with MP3 files, but your MP3 is probably OK since you used the same MP3 in the past.)...and 3 clips (partial clips) all 3 of them .avi
I call this "sneaky corruption", and it can cause all kinds of strange problems including crashing, freezing, and "lip-sync" problems.
You may have to experiment with adding or deleting one file at a time to find out which files are causing you trouble.
The more compressed formats seem to be more prone to this type of problem. (When it's happened to me, I was using MPEG-2 files.) It almost never happens with AVI/DV (13GB per hour, from a Mini-DV camera), but people who use DivX files seem to have lots of trouble.
Note that AVI is not a single format. An AVI file is a "container" or "wrapper" format, and it can contain anything from DV to Divx.

I yesterday had a similar problem and made a post with so far little advice. My *single* DV.avi file needs shortening - so after an edit I create a new video file. It renders to 99% then crash.
What does a person do ?
I captured it off a PAL Hi8 video using a Canopus ADVC 55 A>D converter
thanks Vince

Seems that most of the Files are DivX T_TDVDDoug wrote:but people who use DivX files seem to have lots of trouble.

It seems to me that VS 9 doesn't like the FMV.avis I have for my project at all. Since all of the clips are very long (4 ~ 15 minutes)
and I only need parts as long as 2-8 seconds (since I am trying to synch the video to the background music) It is really not going well....
The preview of the project jumps over great distances and there is no way to time the video-clip length to the music as I used to do.
So...is there a (fool-proof since I am just to errr.... newb) way to convert the videoparts I have beforehand in a VideoStudio9-F R I E N D L Y-format without losing to much quality (since the source isn't that sharp-quality, and re-rendering takes away a chunk as well)
As it is now I have to add a part....cut it roughly , render the whole thing, watch it, restart VS9 and adjust clip-length *reapeat 3-5 times.
For roughly 5 seconds each clip for about 5 minutes planned overall-length of movie...that makes a project worth of a lifetime T_T
Also on a side note....I cannot use the function (roughly translated) "same quality as first videoclip in project" In the last step (finalization and rendering the project) since the "codec cannot be found".
Is there a way to extract the codecinfo out of videofiles to find out which codec I need to download first?
(Since the native resolution of my video-clips is rather strange....and as I wanted to cling to it...hoping that I don't lose to much quality trough resolution-change)
Again, thanks in advance...and sorry for my bad english

Do a Google search for divx to avi or divx to mpeg converter. You'll find plenty.
BTW, your English is much better than some who claim it to be their native language.

Asking for some good choices here would be rude am I right? Since everyone is supposed to work out a litle for oneselfBlack Lab wrote:Do a Google search for divx to avi or divx to mpeg converter. You'll find plenty.
So let me precise questin a little:
Has someone a suggestion for a nearly FOOL-proof- videoformat-converter?
A low learning courve is much more preffered instead of a multy-purpose-"everything_is_possible~nothing_is_impossible"-gazillion-option-monster where I don't need 50% of the otpions offered and don't understand 49% of the other half ^^
I choose VS9 because its really easy and intuitive for newbies via trial-and-error to get where you want ^^
So is there a comperable free converter?
The only thing it should really be able is to convert multiple files one after another (I think converting takes some time, and for the omplete project there are 150clips to be converted...so doing them all on my own is a bit....er.....much?
Oh and on a side note for the near-extinct ultra-motivated-I-help-everywhere and everytime-workaholic-users:
Here I've uploaded ONE of the dozens clips I am using for my video as they are provided. Maybe someone wants (well I said MAYBE
Downloadlink at Badongo.com Filesize: ~40megs
Or at least can provide some info into which format I should convert them for good (best) results or which codecs I should download.
Edit: Since these files are all with soundfiles and I plan on not using ANY of the provided sounds, maybe that could have a special meaning in choosing the right format to be converted in
Again thanks in advance for your precious time folks! (^^)=b
