Fatal error when trying to install trial version of VS11+
Hi. I am a long and happy user of VS (from version 6). I skipped version 10, but now I wanted to have a look at the new version.
But I can't install it. It seems to install a lot for a while. Then it kind of hangs for some time, saying: "AVControlSDK is being installed, please wait". And then suddenly it says "A fatal error has occurred while installing". I press OK, and the installer exits.
Manually browsing to the install dir, I see a lot of installed files, so I try to run vstudio.exe, but it just say "Unable to load the library 'TBYB'."
I have tried to remove every last trace of the failed installation attempt, as well as clearing up various Temp and application data directories, and then reinstall. Same error.
I run Win XP SP2, I run as Administrator and I do not have any antivirus software running. I do have VS9 installed, but I don't think that should interfere with the installer. Any bright ideas?

If you do not have winzip then download a trial copy here
http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm
After installing winzip on your computer, open windows explorer and go to the place where your downloaded set up file for VideoStudio is, it will have an EXE extension.
Right click that file and you will see in the list of options that Winzip has now added another "Extract to"
use that to extract your set up files to a folder of your choosing.
You will see in that new folder a file setup.exe
Try running that file.

Now I have tried it, but that didn't help.
However, I then went a step further. My suspicion has been around the installation of AVControlSDK. So I poked around a bit in the now unpacked files, and in Info.ini i found an entry called AVControlSDK=1. I changed that to 0, and tried yet another install. And to my big surprise it got all the way through. After that, I installed AVControlSDK by manually running Utilities\AVControlSDK\AVControl.exe
And now VS11+ trial works on my machine.

Fatal error installing upgrade from CD
1)removed the VS 11 folder that was created in the first install attempt
2)copied my upgrade CD to disk
3)edit info.ini and change AVControlSDK=1 to 0
4)ran setup from the copy on disk
5)ran utilities\AVControlSDK\AVControl.exe from the copy on disk
Thanks again, my install looks successful.

Frustrated
I did all of the below from 1-4 and still getting the "fatal installation error"
One of the most frustating install I have ever encounter.
I am about to surrender and move to another software, Vegas or Premiere
1)removed the VS 11 folder that was created in the first install attempt
2)copied my upgrade CD to disk
3)edit info.ini and change AVControlSDK=1 to 0
4)ran setup from the copy on disk
5)ran utilities\AVControlSDK\AVControl.exe from the copy on disk
Thanks again, my install looks successful.

Re: Fatal error when trying to install trial version of VS11
Thank you for this hint. I have exactly the same problem. I had it on the online downloaded test version.
This works slightly different:
Steps 1), 3) - 5) like explained by fbower
2) Do not execute the downloaded file, but extract it to temporary folder (ex. with Winzip).
Installation ist sucessfully completed. It is interessting to see that AVControlSDK does not install within the VS11 intallation script, but does, if executed separatly. May be it is linked to the fact that I got a confirmation window, if I want to replace my older version of AVControl on my PC.
ULEAD needs to solve this problem urgently.
This is a excellent example for non appropriate Customer Service. Customer service should take customer problems more serious and not accuse customers to be the source of error.

That could very well be. I remember the exact same confirmation window from my install.JosefGoeppert@web.de wrote:May be it is linked to the fact that I got a confirmation window, if I want to replace my older version of AVControl on my PC.
