Project Properties

Hi

I would like to know what settings do you put in the Project template Properties when you are capturing from a Video Camera DV files (PAL).
By default the setting at the "Edit the format" field is MPEG files. When I installed VideoStudio 11+ I set it for PAL and the MPEG file (in the Edit the format) is shown as PAL. The other setting you have, besides the MPEG file is "Microsoft AVI files" and this is shown as NTSC. The results I get when I leave the setting in MPEG are very good. Should I leave it like that? Does it make any difference if I change it to Microsoft AVI files knowing that this is NTSC? What do you guys do?

To alter your setting to DV (PAL) rather than DV (NTSC)

File
Project properties
Edit File format = Microsoft AVI files
Click the EDIT button
Click the AVI tab
Set compression to DV Video Encoder Type 1
Click the General Tab
Set the Frame Rate to 25
Frame type - Lower field first if your using a digital source such as a camcorder connected via firewire
Display Aspect Ratio - 4.3 or 16.9 as required
Click the VideoStudio Tab
(You will now see that your in PAL mode)
Set the Audio format as required

Confusingly, you have to work backwards and start with the right hand tab and work you're way over to the left.

Thanks sjj1805

That worked OK but when I close VideoStudio and open it again it goes by default to the the setting at the "Edit the format" field is MPEG files.
Does this mean that I must change it every time to Microsoft AVI files before I capture?

Unfortunately you will have to do that each time you start VideoStudio.
The Region settings were set at the time you installed VideoStudio and it asked you to choose from NTSC or PAL, alternatively you could specify your country.

Once set as far as I am aware, no one on this forum has worked out how to alter it without re-installing.

Thanks Steve for your prompt reply. Its OK if I have to do it every time I open VS11. When I have installed VS11 I did specify that I am in PAL region though. What I am saying is that the default project setting is MPEG and not AVI. The AVI Steve is PAL now though, where as before was NTSC.
