hey folks,

Im recording from a analoge sony camcorder Hi8 ccd-trv615 into my pinnacle 710-usb using a S-video cable. When capturing to V9 for some reason I get no sound and at the bottum right side of my monitor is say's mute. I have unmuted everything and still no luck. Can any one help. I will continue to check the forum for an answer., but in the mean time a quick answer would be nice.

Is there an AUDIO cable running from your camcorder to either the USB device, or your computer's sound card :?:

You also need to go to your WINDOWS volume control panel and in particular to the RECORDING panel to make sure all inputs are selected (or conversly not muted) and that the volumes are turned up sufficiently.

To access the recording panel - open Windows volume control and select "Options >> Properties >> Recording"

failed to mention that when I use pinnacle 10 I get sound. I do not like Pinnacle 10 I find V9 much better. since Im capturing analoge I would like to make sure that Im using upper field; and I cannot find away to make sure that Pinnacle is recording in upper field. I have already captured using Pinnacle but the end result was choppy when the camcorder moved, and fine when it did not. :?

I did what you suggested and went to volume control panel and clicked on every item and made sure nothing was muted still no luck.

just re-read your original post - you say you have the word 'Mute' in the bottom right corner of your screen - I only get that when changing to capture and then while in the capture mode if I change the source of the input.
It sounds very much as though you are missing a codec or driver from your system somewhere.
