Losing bits of audio

Post by dmz »

Greetings,
I have a dvd containing a handful of projects. I noticed that when playing the dvd that a few projects lose all audio for the last minute or so of the project.
My process is as follows:
Original input file is DV format .avi
I create an mpeg file from each project first as recommended (PAL)
720 X 576, 24fps,Lower first, 16:9, CBR 6000, MPG audio 224 kbps
I then create a DVD folder from these MPEGS using "do not convert compliant" setting.
The audio appears on the stand alone Mpegs but not when playing from the final DVD folder. I have recreated the DVD folder several times and the problem is consistent. I have used the above method lots and never encountered this problem. Any suggestions?
Im thinking that for those projects that lose audio maybe I should change those output mpegs as dolby digital. Can a final DVD handle mutliple audio formats?
Thanks

Yes -- as long as the DVD player is set up to play those formats. But just about every player of which I am aware will play LPCM, mpeg layer 2 and Dolby -- which are of course the three audio formats used by VS.

Thanks. I tried Dolby and I got the same result. The Mpeg had the audio but the final dvd folder lost the last minute. This is very frustrating. When I did my early rough draft of the project I had all the audio even at the DVD stage. I made some fine tuning edits and I seem to have lost some audio permanently. Its painful but VS is just an inconsistent program sometimes.

It sounds like corruption in the audio file(s)
We need to step back a stage to when you did your editing.

What was the source of the original audio files?
MP3 is known to give some users problems dependant upon the format of the MP3 codec. You might need to convert the audio to WAV and then render the video again before progressing to the authoring stage.

If you have saved your vsp project and have the original files in their original locations you should be able to do this fairly quickly.

Thanks. My original input file for the projects is a DV avi file. I dont know the audio format embedded in these type of files. I am at a loss as to what to try next.

If it is a faulty audio track then you can try the following.
With your project on the timeline:
Go to the Share tab and select Create Sound file.
accept the default format Microsoft WAV files.

When it has finished (It does this rather quickly)
Mute your the audio on your video track.
Import the newly created WAV file to the sound track
Now render your video.

Try the authoring module again.

Thanks again. Ill give it a go but I cant see how it would work. When I create a video file from my project, the audio is there, no problem. Its only when I create the dvd from the video files that it loses the audio.
btw the way I created the WAV file and the audio is there too.

What I did try was I downloaded movie factory 6 trial cause I wanted to check it out. I took the same MPG files I was using for VS10 and authored and created my dvd. MF6 did not lose the audio but vs10 did. Cant work that one out. I thought they might have had the same rendering engine.

So MF6 trial worked where vs10 didnt. The input mpeg files were exactly the same. Next I tried DVD workshop trial as I am still on the search for a good authoring program and MF6 definitely aint it. Using the same input files I got a very different result. 7 mpegs came out fine but 2 lost ALL audio. What I noticed was the in trying to solve the original problem in this thread I had rerendered those odd 2 mpegs using dolby audio whereas the other 7 had mpeg audio. That shouldnt have caused a problem (remember MF6 handled the audio perfectly). I rerendered the odd two files into mpeg audio the same as the other 7 and DVD workshop still loses audio. The only solution is to keep trying other software like dvd lab pro. It gets frustrating when you have such inconsistent results that defies logical solutions.
