On the topic of importing/editing AVCHD:

You have to import your video through VideoStudio itself for the software to recognize it. Connect your camcorder, and in the Capture step, select "Import from DVD". It will recognize your camcorder as a device and you can choose which video clips to import directly into your library, from where you can edit it. It will also create proxies, if you have that selected, which will make the editing much smoother.
