VS 11 - DVDs Do Not Play

Post by rdgall »

Was receiving "Unspecified Error 5:0:0" initially. Read posting about converting to .mpg2 THEN burning. This at least allowed me to be able to burn the DVD. However, it will not play back in any device - I tried on 2 DVD machines and 2 computers with no luck.

Any idea why this won't work?

Could be a number of things, but it is difficult to say with the little information you have given us.

First, what speed did you burn the DVD at? It has been our collective experience that burning at a low speed will often produce a disc more capable of being played in a wide variety of players. We tend to recommend 4x, though if you are using higher rated discs, say 16x, you might not be able to get as low as 4x. In that case, try 6x. The idea, though, is not to burn at the full rated speed. A slower burn allows the laser to more firmly embed the signal and thus give a wide variety of reading lasers a better chance of being able to read it.

It could also be the discs you use. So players just don't like certain brands of discs, or even the colour of the dye used on them.

But it could also have something to do with the mpeg-2 your produced. What was the original source of your video and what properties did you use to produce the mpeg-2?

How long did the burn process take overall?

What type of disc did you burn to (DVD5, DVD9, regular CD-R/RW, or other) :?:

Also, what folders and files do you see on the disc :?:

George
