Well, if Tobie is reading this thread, then they're probably working on it.
All of the Ulead people that I knew when I was a consultant are no longer with the company.
It's like an entirely new company, frankly.
I'll see if I can reach somebody.

One idea I haven't tried:
The Sony HDR-UX1 AVCHD camcorder manual suggests that my DVD+RW disc needs to be "finalized."
That step I forgot.
I'm used to using DVD-RAM, which doesn't require finalization.
When I get home, I'll try the finalization procedure and see if that makes a difference for VideoStudio 11 Plus's "IMPORT FROM DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in.

It sounded like the original poster (MRG) created a AVCHD disk using the sony software & then used the import feature. This results in the H264.m2t videos being extracted and copied to the "Working Folder". It appears to me that these files are not in program stream but TS (transport stream).
My related problem has been with the TS format, not the PS format. Both in importing a avchd and hd-mpeg2. But I can import the avchd disk (dvd-rw) without any problems reading it. I can also use the extracted h264.m2t files in another program and they are read correctly, and converted properly. Seems to be in the reading side of the video file.
The extension .m2t usually means TS format, at least with all my hd-mpeg2 that I capture using VMS or HDVSplit.
It sounds to me like the .m2ts is a container similar to a VOB container. Not exactly sure though. I can't read the directory structure on my mini-dvd-rw avchd disk using explorer (XP-SP2).

Jerry...I believe you missed an extra step you have to take. After importing your files from your camcorder and before you write them to a disk you have to use the Sony supplied software "Picture Motion Browser" to convert the files to m2t. Open Manipulate and create an AVCHD disk. This is simple to do but very time consuming. After you've created this disk UVS11+ will recognize the files and they can then be imported into the Timeline or Storyboard or if you prefer to your Library. I know this is a pain in the butt but until a fix is available this is the only way. But let me say that after this step the rest is easy and the end result is nothing short than magnificent. I keep reading that this software does not produce true HD nor true 16:9. That is pure b......t.Jerry Jones wrote:I can verify some of what the original poster has complained about in this thread.
I have VideoStudio 11 Plus installed on a very clean, fresh installation of Microsoft Windows XP Home.
1. VideoStudio 11 Plus's "Import From DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in is broken here; each time I use it I see an error message that says "unspecified error." But the program doesn't crash here. It just produces that error message and refuses to import any video from the DVD+RW disc in my drive (which does support DVD+RW discs).
2. The Sony software -- on the disc that ships with the camcorder (Sony HDR-UX1) -- works fine.
3. After using the Sony software to import the clips from the DVD+RW disc to my computer's hard disk, I observe that the clips have an extension ".M2TS" -- AND ULEAD VIDEOSTUDIO 11 PLUS CAN'T READ THESE RAW CLIPS! I get "file format mismatch" if I attempt to import these raw clips into the timeline.
I believe the "IMPORT FROM DVD/DVD-VR" capture plug-in appears to be defective.
I suspect it may be failing to convert the "transport stream" MPEG-4 from the AVCHD disc into a "program stream" MPEG that VideoStudio 11 Plus can read.
A patch would be nice!
By the way, I also tried to connect the camcorder directly to the computer using a USB 2.0 cable and -- the computer properly recognizes the camcorder as a drive -- but the VideoStudio 11 Plus software's "Import" feature -- again -- results in an "unspecified error" message.
I wish this could have been detected during the beta testing for this product.
Ulead claims this product supports AVCHD camcorders, but -- in my view -- it clearly doesn't do so here.

Finalization did not result in any improvement.
Same error message.

Jerry,
You can download this sample file if the link is still available.
This post: Download by "Right Click, Save to Download" above the picture of the city. This is a good .m2t file that he was using. As you can see there is no fielding information in the post.

If I could, I would test to see if I could reproduce the aspect ratio issue reported in this thread.
I just hate the idea of a capture workflow like the one you've suggested.
While it may work, I think I would rather wait for the patch.
Or I may do something I never dreamed of doing before.
Buy a competitor's program to find out if they offer REAL support for AVCHD.

Jerry,
I am going to start a new thread. There are to many comments in this thread that have nothing to do with the actual issue in the new VS11+.

Everything I've done in standard definition and high definition program stream format works very well. So only users of these expensive avchd devices will have to wait for a patch.
This is NOT a problem for the average user. I would hate to see someone not buy VS11+ because of reading this thread and getting the wrong impression. Most users have DV, hd-mpeg2 cams, mini-dvd camcorders, dvd recorders and many other PROGRAM STREAM Devices.
So, if one doesn't have a avchd HighDefintion Camcorder then Don't Bother nor worry and ignore this thread. This complete thread is only related to AVCHD HIGH DEFINITION Camcorders. Not standard camcorders or the supported high definition camcorders that use the hd-mpeg2 format.
I would also like to point out that MRG posted links to some bad videos that he created using VS11+, calling these program bugs. A bug in a program is not the same as a bad template file.
After downloading and analyzing MRG's converted files I was amazed to see such poor settings that are totally wrong relating to format conversions.
Let me say this, how many people have cooperated in this thread?
How many people downloaded these converted files?
NO ONE has picked up that these files are incorrectly coded?
The HD-WMV video file has a VIDEO_BIT_RATE of 31,015Kbps HD-WMV video is 6000kbs - 8000kbs CBR as per MS HD-WMV specs. MRG complained that the video would only play for 2 seconds and studder. It will studder when you encode the video 4 times above the MS HD-WMV spec.
The Divx file was also encoded wrong.
I am locking this thread because it contains links and comments to poor/bad/defective videos created by the author of this thread, who after using all the incorrect settings turns around and calls these bugs in the program. Then posts the videos for people to download to demonstrate or prove that VS11+ has bugs. These are not bugs, the author simply needs to educate himself on how to convert & cross compile video to other formats correctly.
I am also locking this thread because it does not reflect the true issues related to the new release of VS11+.
