Problems burning to DVD -R

Post by Macca99 »

I'm having difficulty burning my video to DVD - I've already wasted around 20 discs!

I'm trying to burn create one disc containing 3 MPEG2 files, which are in 16:9 aspect ratio. The files add up to around 1 hour 20 minutes (well within the size limits for 'good' quality video).

The menu's I'm using are the standard Videostudio versions, but with a little customisation.

Whenever I try to burn to DVD, the whole thing seems to work without errors until it actually starts to burn the disc it gets to around 15% complete before throwing out the disc. The message on screen is 'Operation completed successfully'. However, when I try to read the disc, it only plays the menu screens and the first 2 or 3 seconds of the video content.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm going crazy!

Thanks

I dont know how help, but I'd suggest buying a DVD-RW, to use until you get it right. they are more expensive, but in the long run it is cheaper

First, stop burning to disk at the end of the Create Disk process, create a VIDEO_TS folder and/or ISO file instead. The VIDEO_TS folder can be opened using DVD Player software, and the ISO file can be burned to disk using the CD/DVD Image Burner utility that came with UVS or any other program that understands ISO files.

Second, what version of UVS do you have, and have you applied all available patches? How about the Burning Engine Update?

Do you have enough temporary disk space available? Have you successfully used this particular media before with your DVD burner?

Thanks, this appears to have solved the problem. I ticked the box to create the ISO file and the disc burned perfectly first time. I also managed to burn copies direct from the ISO file.

I think the computer was struggling to burn the disc without creating the ISO file first. Something to beware of!

Many thanks
