cannot import .vob (DVD files) directly to VS 11
I do an upgrade from VS 10 to VS 11.
When I was still in VS 10, i can simply import .vob files from my dvd by dragging the files into the timeline or the video library. But i can't do it with VS 11. What's wrong? Is this one of the changes from VS 10? i am thinking i should stick with VS 10 but im still considering Vs 11 as great!

I have completed a Tech Support form on this issue to see if they can provide us with some clarity, as to if it was removed intentionally or accidentally left out.
If you have VS10 then use it for your projects that use VOB files. However I don't understand how you can have VOB files that are not valid DVD. Generally the VOB files are created by a DVD authoring program, and should be valid (dvd compliant). Perhaps by editing the VOB files, they are no longer DVD compliant.

Thank you, hopefully they can release a patch or plugin that enables this like they did on VS9 with AC3.vidoman wrote:I have completed a Tech Support form on this issue to see if they can provide us with some clarity, as to if it was removed intentionally or accidentally left out.

It's a video game on a DVD so the VOB files don't have the video_ts structure stuff and NFO files so it's not recognized as a DVD video disc.

Yes but there's over 100 of them, it would take up around 7gig of space and forever to relink all of them. Probably best just to do the project in VS10Ken Berry wrote:Have you tried the option of simply importing the VOB files onto your hard drive, then changing the extension from .vob to .mpg? That often works...

Today I received the response from Ulead concerning this..
Simple answer is that inserting VOB files has been removed.Ulead did not include the support for VOB file in new VideoStudio 11 because not all of this files that are saved in a DVD disc has video data. Try playing each of the VOB files in some of yourburned DVDs, you can see that most small VOB files are not playeable with the usual software players that supports this file format. The only way now to get the DVD file into VS 11 editor is by using the program's 'Import DVD' function.

Hmm,Note that UVS 11 DOES support import of VOB files - just not directly from Explorer. So by using the "Import form DVD" function, you can definitely still import your video from DVD camcorders, or even from DVD folders on your hard drive.
Whims are we now?I agree that it has always been able to insert using the Insert DVD/DVD-R command.
I think they should put the function back into VS11+, the same as it worked in VS10+. Many times the dvd import function can fail, bad or corrupted dvd disk/harddrive, bad vob, whatever, it's a great utility to count on.
Well, was a great utility.

Taking account of the comments that vob files can be imported by using "Import from DVD" could somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong as I cannot achieve this.
I have all the DVD files in a folder on my hard drive. I am using a trial copy of VS11 and am opening the VideoStudio Editor.
If I go to "Caputre - Import from DVD/DVD-VR" and "Browse for DVD folder", when I select the appropriate folder the "OK" button remains Greyed out, so nothing happens.
If I go to "Load Video" and browse to the folder, no vob files show unless they have the extension changed to .mpg
Also, if I change them to mpg it then plays in 4:3 format instead of 16:9

You should be looking for a VIDEO_TS folder. After navigating to it, then highlight the VIDEO_TS folder and the import or OK icon will become active.
If you don't have a VIDEO_TS then it can't work because there are other required files besides the VOB's in the VIDEO_TS folder. They would be the indexing, menu's & other files.
Also, not sure about using DVD+RW but on one of my dvd recorders if I use DVD+RW disks it's not capable of recording in 16:9, only 4:3.
It's an older Sony DVD Recorder.
