upgrade to VS11 on Vista

Post by david_h »

Hi,

I've just moved to Vista Home Premium. On my old XP machine I had a full copy of VS8 and and upgrade copy of VS9. I understand that neither of these will run on Vista. I also understand that both these versions of the software will allow me to buy the cheaper upgrade version of VS11.

My question is: During installation, does VS11 look for an earlier installed version (i.e VS8) or do you simply enter a product code from an earlier version? If it is the former I can't see how I'll be able to install VS8 on Vista to verify the VS11 upgrade.

When you order the upgrade, you have to enter the serial number of the earlier version, and you can them download the upgrade. And during its installation, you are again asked for the earlier serial number. It doesn't look for an earlier installed version actually on your computer.

Thanks for the quick reply Ken. That certainly simplifies the install process.
