I have a canon DC40 which does not have a dv out, can someone advise which of the following methods is lokely to get the best results please?
Anaolgue capture using the av out and a firewire card - or - DVD import by using the mini dvd in my pc.

Without knowing what version you are using, or what your computer specs are, I'm going to say your better method would be the latter, Insert DVD/DVD-R. However reading a little on your model of camcorder, it records to MOD format, which VS10 supports for at least the JVC camcorder.
