Hello,
I've been using the trial version (standard, not plus) 10 for a month, and got some very helpful guidance here a few weeks ago. I now have two problems.
1. When I came to buy it I found it had been upgraded to v.11. I bought that but things that worked okay in v.10 now seem very slow, and when I apply autotone enhancement the .avi gets jerky and doesn't work properly. I'm wondering if it's a resources problem. I upgraded my RAM from 0.5GB to 1.GB to work with v.10. Is that not likely to be enough for v.11?
1(a) Related to that, is it possible for me to revert to v.10? I wouldn't have bought v.11 if the trial had suggested that the programme wouldn't work on my machine. I tried entering the v.11 licence code into the trial (in case it was backwards compatible, if you see what I mean) but it wouldn't accept it.
3. I have an intermittent error message that actually started while I was using v.10 i.e. "statsfile missing". I don't know what it means, or whether it's affecting anything, but it worries me.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I reviewed your other posts, to learn that you are editing Xvid (avi) video. As was mentioned in earlier posts, this format is very highly compressed, working with DV (avi) or MPEG-2 , both are not nearly as compressed, can also cause the preview to be jerky, previewing using Instant Playback is going to be jerky. However the final (rendered) movie should not. To provide an Instant Playback preview, the program must put everything together "on-the-fly". Any edits, effects, transitions, etc., must be thrown together while you are previewing. This is very demanding on a PC. So there is nothing wrong, so long as the rendered video from your project is not jerky.
Unless you are going to work with HD (Hi-Def) video, then 1gig of Memory should be enough.
Possible to revert to VS10? No it is not. When you made the purchase, it was very clear what version you were purchasing. There was no VS10 Standard TBYB version. The TBYB was in fact VS10 Plus. The same holds true for VS11. You can try to get VS10, in which case you need to contact Element 5, and try to convince them that you did not want VS11. Good Luck..
Your Question#3, have you moved, deleted any video clips that you have inserted into your VS Project? As explained in previous posts, the "clips" in your Project are just virtual clips. The thumbnails are just links to the original source video clips. So if you move any of your Source video clips, you should first get the Relink warning, stating that VS can not find a certain video clip, and if you want to relink. The error message that you received is one that I have not seen though. It would appear that VS can not find some file. Are you still getting that error message? If so, what specifically are you doing when it pops up?

Hi, thanks for your help.
I reasise that the videos I'm using have the potential to be jerky, but what I was commenting on was the differences between using them in v.10 and v.11. Once I'd done some housekeeping and added some RAM they worked fine in v.10 - even in Instant Playback mode - but there's a noticable difference in v.11.
When I uninstalled v.10 I noticed that it was 100+MB, and that v.11 is 400+MB. It struck me that there might well be a causal connection there. I'm no expert, though. Perhaps that was too simplistic a conclusion?
In fact, jerkiness when I'm putting the video together does matter to me because I'm trying to synchronise small clips closely with music. If I can't get an accurate rendition before I finally create a file then I can't really do the job.
As for what you've said about my purchase of v.11... of course I knew what I was buying, but since I'd been using a 'trial' version, and clicking on the 'Purchase' tab took me to v.11, I naturally assumed that v.11 would be comparable in terms of performance to what I'd been 'trialing' for a month. Again, I'm no expert though. Maybe I shouldn't have assumed that Ulead would have taken that into account. I'm not trying to pull some sort of fast one, by the way (I noticed your 'winky'). I trialed a product for a month and loved it. When I produced my money to buy it I ended up with something that doesn't work properly on my machine: quite possibly because in the meantime they've made the programme 4 times larger.
Re: my Question 3, no - I haven't moved anything. I've just double-checked, to be sure. I'm not opening an existing project. I'm simply inserting a video file into the Library. When I drag it into the Timeline I get the message "Error! Statsfile not found." I click OK and the error message remains on the screen. I click OK a second time and the message disappears. I can then work with the file. It's a bit weird...

It seems the Statsfile not Found error is directed specifically towards the Xvid codec. I done a Google Search on that error and that is what I'm finding, that it is related to Xvid.
The increased file size of VS11 over VS10 is not surprising, as VS11 natively supports Vista, has some more bells and whistles, so the size will be different then that of its predecessor. However I don't think that has anything to do with how smooth the preview plays back. Your preview playback is due to your editing of Xvid. You must understand that format is very highly compressed. It was developed for viewing on a PC, not for editing. So you are attempting to use a file format for something it was not intended for. So do not blame the software (any) for things like jerky playback. It is a wonder that VS manages to produce much preview at all.
When video editing makers, create a product that indicates it supports Xvid, DivX, MPEG-4, AVHD, WMV, that are highly compressed formats, they are meaning that from your DV or possibly MPEG2 you can convert or create those highly compressed file formats to be used on the internet, cellphones, or just your PC. It has been (in my opinion) misconstrued that they can edit these formats with ease. I'm not saying it can not be done, but as you are finding, your PC will struggle with this.

Thanks for the tip re: the Statsfile Not Found message. I'll look into it further.
As for the rest, I'm not sure how to explain any more clearly than I've already done (twice) that the problem I'm having with playback only exists with v.11. It didn't exist in v.10.
Video Studio is a good product, and I'm sure v.11 is a good product too. Ignoring the point I've made about the differences between the way versions 10 and 11 run on my computer doesn't make those differences go away, though.
