Overlay Transparency VS11

Post by timiano2 »

Hi

I was wandering if anyone had any ideas on how to achieve a fade on the overlay track. I'm unable to drag the fade-out filter to my overlay track as it shows a no entry sign, so I'm assuming effects can only be applied to the main video track.

The transparency on the overlay can only be a constant amount. The footage in question is a pan and zoom of a map that is overlayed a travel scene. I've tried adding a keyframe to the pan and zoom and reduce transparency to 100% there, but that seems to have the effect of fading to black which effects the main footage by whatever % transparency is applied (ie it all goes a bit dark).

Is there anyway around this?

No Worries,

I've just found it. Fade In/Fade Out motion effect. It doesn't give any kind of granular control, but it will do.

Thanks

You cannot use transitions from the effects library in an Overlay Track. That was probably one of the most requested features by users, but was ignored by Ulead for v11.

But, you can fade in/out in the overlay tracks. On the Overlay's Attribute tab, beneath the Enter & Exit Direction boxes, are four icons. Two are for a simple fade in and fade out, two are for a tumble in and tumble out.

You can also do a cross-fade by putting one clip in Overlay Track 1 and another clip in Overlay Track 2 and overlap them.
