Preview stutters with VS11

Post by stelch »

Hi
I am using VS11 plus. When I capture (DV files from my Sony camera FX7) the video in the preview window stutters a bit. On the edit stage when I play back the video clips, its smooth. With VS10 I never had this problem. Any ideas. Any settings that I have to look at?

File | Preferences | Preview tab | Playback method.

You have two choices, instant playback (quick and rough)
High quality playback (slow but better quality)

I found a similar thing happened in XP Pro with VS10 when I changed my Firewire card. It turned out to be an older graphics card. When I bought a new graphics card (NVidia 7800 with 512MB of its own RAM), preview was again smooth.

VS11+ is, as far as I can see, even more demanding of system resources, and it could be that your graphics card is just falling behind a bit. At the very least, have you updated its driver?

Hi

I have done what you said sjj1805 but it didn't help and Ken here are my specs:
P4 3.2Ghz with HT
2GB of DDR 400MHz ram
2x120Gb Serial ATA HDD
Asus Extreme GeForce N6600 PCI Express
Creative SB Audigy LS
and I do have the latest nVidia drivers 93.71. I don't think its the card as I had the same set up with VS10 and I never gad any stutters in preview mode. It must be something else.
