Date & Time Code in Trial VS 11

I'm having the same exact problem as the original poster. In fact, it's the reason I found this post in the forum.

When I view my source videos in Media Player, there is no timecode, but when I pull it into VS11, it is added automatically. And oddly, when I go to FILE > PREFS, etc.... I have the Timecode option unchecked, but it is still added automatically... Pretty bad problem, if I can't find a way to resolve it...

Date codes that cannot be hidden in VS11

Post by snoopy »

Yes, I too have looked in this forum for exactly the same thing. Video recorded on Sony camcorder, copied onto hard drive using VS11 ad edited in VS11. Date code is defiately not visible in camcorder, nor on copied video when viewed with WMP or other software. VS11 reveals it with apparently no way of removing it. Please Ulead, correct this fault otherwise my trial version will not become a full version.

Has anyone submitted a Technical Support Form for this problem? This is a user's forum. Ulead employees don't visit too often.

Date code

Post by snoopy »

I cannot apparently submit a technical support form as Ulead will not accept them from trial versions. You have to a registration no from a full version of the product to get to the form. Only other means seems to be a long phone call at 60p/min

Under "Preferences" it says "Display DV timecode on Preview Window"
I have copied files from my Sony HandyCam DCR DVD-405
Your sony Cam records DV?

I think you may be looking at sub-titling added to your videos (somehow).
I have this happen on occasion with both my Sony & Panasonic recorders.
Neat Idea to if Sony decided to add the time & date as a sub-title information.

Try opening up VS and don't load any videos. Go directly to "Share -> Create Disk", then insert one of the videos from your cam that have the time/date stuff in it. Go into the menu section & preview the video. There is a Sub-Title button on the navigator control, try toggling this on and off.

Another method could be while the video is loaded on the timeline and you can see the date/time click on "Title" and take notice if "Save SubTitle File" is active and not greyed out. If it's active then this would be a sub-title file I guess. I don't have any subtitled files to use right now.

Thanks, etech6355, it was worth a try but your tests just show it is not subtitles. No subtitles exist and the "Save SubTitle File" is greyed out

Well, it's not funny but in the past many complained about not being able to display the timecode and have it embedded in the video.

End result is if you create a dvd does this showup on the final dvd or is it only displaying this when previewing the video (for timing purposes).

The date shows up in the final video as well as the preview.
However the suggestion regarding subtitles may be part of the answer. Whilst no subtitles are recorded or visible as such in VS11, I have discovered a setting on the Sony camcorders that MAY be the root of the problem.
There is a setting on the Sony camcorders, for which the default setting is ON, called SUB_T_DATE, that automatically displays the video date on playback devices that have a sub-title facility.
It could therefore be that this becomes a permanently embedded sub-title that does not register as such and cannot then be removed.
Certainly my video was recorded with the default setting of ON.
I will now do some testing over the next few days with the SUB_T_DATE set to OFF and see what happens in VS11. If it is the answer then we can probably do nothing about existing videos unless maybe unfinalizing and refinalizing with the setting OFF has some effect.
I will post the results of testing in about a week, unless one of the other members with the same problem does the testing first.

Problem solved - I think

My comment above seems to work, having done a quick test.
With "SUB_T_DATE" on the camcorder set to Off the Video date does not appear on the final video/DVD.
With it set ON when recording then it is there and cannot be removed and displays on anything that can deal with subtitles, then it becomes part of the final DVD.
Will try unfinalising and finalising again on existing videos but I do not think that will have any effect as the Date seems to be burned into the recording as a subtitle, with no option not to display
Well done Sony
Let me know if this works for the other members with the same problem

Good find, snoopy. :)

If anybody is still interested I have also found that although the date sub-titles cannot be removed if the video was shot with SUB_T_DATE switched on, I have been able to get rid of it when playing back via my DVD player by ensuring my DVD player set up is set to sub titles off

I was visiting another forum and found a thread about this same problem. A solution they found was this:
When importing from DVD select chapters go to the right tab with subtitle and unckeck the option.
So you could even import chapters from the same dvd with or without time stamp.
Hope this helps.

Still a Bug in VideoStudio

Post by codazoda »

I have this same problem, but I believe this is still a bug in VideoStudio.

I imported my DVD using the Sony Picture Motion Browser software and imported them to .mpg files. Then, I turned around and loaded those .mpg's into VideoStudio.

I can play these files in Picture Motion Browser, Windows Media Player, Adobe Premier, and Sony Vegas. None of these other programs display these "subtitles".

That makes me think that VideoStudio should be able to ignore or hide these. But, I can't get rid of them without re-importing the original DVD without subtitles. My main problem is that I don't always have the original DVD.

Just an idea
VideoStudio uses the Title track to generate "Subtitles"
What happens to those 'subtitles' if/when you have titles on the title track?

Possible workrounds you can try:
1. Does a single title on the title track remove those 'imported subtitles?'
2. If it only removes them where these created titles appear then perhaps a single title containing nothing but a space bar but the title stretched the entire length of the video might do the trick.

Like I said.... just an idea
