Editing w/VideoStudio 7

Post by donjsh »

When I am editing my captured home movies, VS7 freezes, sometimes just the program and sometimes the whole computer. I have all the updates and have uninstalled and re-installed and the same thing happens. Can someone help me please? Thank you.

tell us more about your computer system, for example the brand and model of your CPU, example a Pentium 4. The operatiing system, for example Windows 98, etc. Information on your hard drive, like speed, size, how much is emply space you have left in the hard drive. etc. Give the readers some clues, so they can try and assist you.

...and, of course, we also need to know the properties of your captured video and exactly how it was captured; what you did in the editing process; and the intended format of the final product (e.g. VCD or DVD).

I have a 200G hard drive, 384 MB Ram, Windows XP w/Service Pack 2, Intel Celeron and 1.4 GHz speed. I do normal editing with VideoStudio7. I have all the updates. Sometimes when I am editing, the program freezes and at times, it freezes the whole computer. At other times, when the video is being rendered, it freezes. I like to render every ten minutes or so. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program and I get the same results. The fomat is DVD. It was captured using ADS CapWiz. I have over 150G empty space on the hard drive. Any help will be appricated. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Hi
Your installed 384 MB Ram, may be a little on the small side, although ulead recommend a minimum of 256Mb for editing.(VS 7) for VS 8 you need 512 Mb
Have a read at the system requirements and system tweaks in the VS 7 help section ( press F1)

Or try Ulead
Requirements:-
http://www.ulead.co.uk/vs/sysreq.htm

Tweaks

Hope this helps

Is it recommended that I upgrade my memory? A couple of times, a box would pop up and say Out of Memory. How big should I go? Do I need to do anything else? Thank you.

As Trevor said, 512MB is a practical minimum. How high you can go will depend on your computer and the type and number of memory modules that are already installed.

Does your computer freeze completely, or does it merely become very sluggish and the hard disk is constantly being accessed? How much memory is free before you start UVS?

The Out of Memory error is weird. Windows uses virtual memory... when it runs out of RAM, it starts using the hard drive as RAM. This slows things down, but it shouldn't cause a crash or error.

Do you know if your file system is FAT32 or NTFS? (FAT32 files can't be bigger than 4GB.) I think XP uses NTFS by default, so this shouldn't be the problem either.

I only have 384mb of ram and use both VS7 & VS8 without any problems. The main thing you need to do is check that your virtual memory is set to twice the amount of ram you have. It would also help to have a seperate physical hdd used for your editing.
