Old software new O/S. Is there any hope?
Novice user has got new PC with Vista and VS9 SE, bundled in the pack. Also had a copy of cool 3D thrown in for good measure (havent played with it yet though.) I have been able to capture the video from our camcorder but come time to play it back I encounter problems with the sound. Error message reads "Failed to use Direct Show Video Engine, cannot playback the audio stream: No audio hardware is available or the hardware is not responding. 13102:2:4 " I am getting sound playing back sometimes but most of the time get the annoying error message. Is my only hope to upgrade or can I make the old version work for me?

VS9 is not Vista compliant. VS10 was made so with a patch, though users report it disables Vista Aero and reverts whatever version back to Vista basic. VS11 which has just been released, is fully Vista compliant.
Cool 3D, sadly, is also not Vista compliant -- and may be discontinued, which will be very sad for those of us who use it a lot for preparing wonderful titles for our videos...

Having said that you might be lucky using the Vista Program Compatibility Wizard
