Rendering for online issue- odd

Post by greg mgm »

I'm using VS 10 and ran into a new problem. I tried rendering my latest project for online, 320 x 240 (also tried 352 x 240) and what happens is the clips that were on the overlay track becomes 4:3 format on the rendered video, when it and everything else is 16: 9 in the timeline. I rendered it as NTSC DVD 16 : 9 and MPEG 2 720 x 480 and it came out perfect. I'm wondering why the overlay tracks would change formats only after being rendered for online. Weird! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I followed the procedure step by step, downloading the divx codec etc, and tried rendering it again, and the same thing happens..... Any clip that is on the overlay track renders to 4:3 instead of 16:9 like it should be. It renders fine for DVD 720x480. Is there a setting I need to change?

I can't say I have heard of anyone else mentioning this problem.
do you have a link to one of your You tube samples, plus a screen shot of your timeline and preview window in VideoStudio so we can compare what the project looks like and the rendered result.

30 frames a second

The You Tube procedure works fine as written above. Only thing I noticed on the You Tube site is that they reccomend 30 frames per second for best quality upload.

I suppose it depends upon if your source material is NTSC (virtually 30 frames per second) or PAL (virtually 25 frames per second)

The upload to Veoh shows the format change-

The problem starts one minute into the video, when the scenes change to overlay clips, which change to 4:3.

I have looked at the video, very nice.
It appears to me that you have the project set up for 4.3 and have a 16.9 video on the video track.

2 possible cures.
1. Double check your project settings to ensure that you are in fact in 16.9 mode
2. If after checking you are in 16.9 then perhaps you need to resize the overlays keeping them within the 'TV Safe Area' guidelines.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I didn't get a chance to post screen shots yet, but first I'll check the settings, and have a look at the overlays...I'l l post back when I get the results. Thanks a lot for the help!
