I am trying to burn a dual layer disc using DVD Workshop 2. My file is 6.8gb clearly too large to burn on a standard DVD-R disc. I am all ready to go and popped a new DVD-R DL disc into my TSST SH-S182D Dual layer DVD burner and when I click burn it says I have not put in a disc or the disc is not clear. I have tried this with several brand new discs. However, if I put a standard DVD-R disc in the burner it reads it fine. Is there something different I need to do in order to get my DVD Workshop2 to read my DVD-R DL discs?
Please help....

Have you installed the DVD Workshop2 DVD-R DL Update Pack (Build Number: 2.232 , Release Date: 2005/07/20)

I have downloaded it. Is there a way to tell if it was installed properly? If not, do you have any other ideas as to why it is not reading these dual layer discs? I have tried 3 different ones from the new batch I bought. None of them are showing up. I can't tell if the problem is with the DVD, DVD-Burner, or the software.
Do you have any other burning software?
You could try "burning" to the hard disk, and then use your other burning software to copy the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to an actual dual-layer DVD. (Even before I had a dual-layer burner, I was able to create DVD folders that wouldn't fit on a single-layer DVD... I don't remember If I'd downloaded the dual-layer update at that time...)
I assume you know how to do that... When you get to the "burn" step, check the box that says Create DVD folders and un-check Create Disc.

It might be your DVD Burners firmware - check your manufacturers website to see if there has been an update.
Ironically I bought a new DVD Burner from a well known nationwide High street shop a few months ago and had problems burning some DVD's, only to find that the firmware needed to be updated. Who would have thought that would happen to a brand new one!
Please see DVD burning/playback problems

My firmware is updated...
When I clicked on the dialog box next to the DVD burners this it what came up:
Ulead MMC CD/DVD Writing Plug-in version 3.6.19.281
Compatible drives:
CD -/+ R/RW
DVD -/+ R/RW
I did not see anything with DVD-R DL. Should this show up on here? I downloaded the update for the DL burning.

I see this:

I do however have several Ulead programs including MF6+ and VS11+ which may be the reason for my newer burning version.
perhaps you could try this patch

Re: Dual Layer
Aside from the DL disc-recognition problem -- what are the settings you are using to encode your files? How long is your video duration, and what type of audio are you using? There might be a way you can get it onto a single-layer disc (using different encoding properties for video and/or audio).jeremyames wrote:I am trying to burn a dual layer disc using DVD Workshop 2.
