Support for AVCHD import and the DD5.1 Soundtrack in VS11+?

Post by markk655 »

I did some searches in this forum an couldn't find an answer to this question. I am considering a move from another NLE that will support AVCHD (but doesn't yet). Word on their new version is that it will downmix the 5.1 surround sound embedded in the AVCHD m2ts file into stereo audio. Since they are supporting only half of the AVCHD import (essentialy I lose out on the audio), I am looking for an alternative.

Does VideoStudio 11 Plus keep the camcorder audio in 5.1 format? If it imports "the whole AVCHD - HD video and 5.1 SS", I am sold!). I would be importing from a Panasonic HDC-SD1.

Also, I have to admit that the system requirements appear to be on the low side for AVCHD editing. So, I would be curious to hear about experiences editing AVCHD on different machines.

I think I found an answer, but additional confirmation would be good...

Also, any feedback regarding the tech specs for AVCHD?

Mark665,
You know me as Greenidge. I have the same camcorder as you. The 5.1 audio is exactly the same as it is recorded. I played it back on my SS system after I made the DVD. The quality of the video, is equal or better than P's, because I like using a constant bitrate, and I will go up to 8200; without having a problem. I can't wait until I get a HDVD player & burner.
To be honest with you. The only reason I ever tried out P, is because Ulead at one time said; they didn't have any 5.1 audio plans, when P 10+ came out. But they did, almost a year later. And I applaud them for beating P, with a AVCHD 5.1 audio editing program. I never gotten a Ulead program, where the menus didn't work, magenta or green preview screen; and I have been using Ulead, Video Studio since version 3 or 5 SE. I think. Never a problem, top video quality. Mark, my video cards, have never been a issue with Ulead Video Studio. Just speed, a slow machine meant longer rendering. You don't know how happy I am to see the Ulead beat P this time. P, may never see me again. With P, I had to buy a new video card; delay my production 6 months, be a free beta tester. And what do I get for it? A offer, for a pre shipped upgrade for $70? What's it going to be after it comes out? Here my upgrade is $60, and I got to try it first, for free.

I just downloaded the trial and I am looking forward to trying it out. I am really excited by the prospects VS is offering.

Thanks for helping convince me to take the plunge. I have been a P user for quite some time, so I just have to get over the fact that I may have to repurchase various bits such as Adorage and Heroglyph if I want plug-ins.

Thanks again!
