No capturing from my Sony HDR1E in AVCHD/MT2S
Ow, I've been waiting for a long time for VS 11. I've downloaded the trial version and was very excited for the latest emprovement: Capturing and editing AVCHD/MT2S files from my Sony HDR-SR1E.
Unfortunality it didn't work. I can't capture MT2S-files from my camera.
Did I do something wrong or is is this still not availible in VS 11-plus?
Please dear friends, help me out!

Jacques,

should work

Joe,
If you want help on this forum then post some useful information. No one can help you if you don't provide any usefule information. Don't advertise other products on a forum such as this that has such excellent support from it's users. If you want that program then go for it. This other program happens to cost 7 times more and is NOT an average consumer based program (It's very complex and for advanced video editing).

Jacques de Groen,
Exactly what are your steps used to access the camcorder?
First, you should have the cam in "Computer Mode" (setup menu on the cam)
Windows will assign a drive letter to the camcorder.
Use the "Import DVD/-VR Disk" in VS, click on Import DVD Folder, a new browsing window will pop-up. Select the drive that windows assigned to your camcorder, click on the + sign next to the drive letter and navigate to the AVCHD folder. After VS reads this folder (may be a considerable delay) the OK or Import Button will become active.
Click on the OK button and VS will list the contents, put a check in the box of the video you want to import and then click on the Import icon.
Windows assigns a drive letter to your camcorder, for cams with a harddisk you would use the "Import Dvd Folder" Icon, find the assigned drive, click on the + button as above.
Are you doing all of this?
It's hard to help, you don't provide much information except you can't get it to work.

Try opening VS11 after the going through the camera hook up and after Windows assigns a drive letter.
The drive assigned should be the next letter available, so assuming you only have a C drive, the camera should be assigned D. That is a windows function. Some programs will not rescan the drives while loaded but only scan when first loaded.

Joe999.
You mean after windows assigns a drive letter such as Drive F: to the camcorder.
If you use the Insert DVD/-VR module and click on the "Import DVD Folder" this new assigned drive isn't displayed in the pop-up browser window?
I'm speaking about using the "Import DVD Folder" NOT the list of drives at the top this this pop-up screen that lists the physical optical drives.
Maybe assigning the drive before starting VS as posted above would help.

Read this link, I think like RailRoadGuy suggested should work. Connect and establish the drive connection before starting VS11+. Seems like windows explorer caching is retaining the old data in it's cache.

Another method is to copy the contents (all the directories) of the camcorders harddisk to your local harddisk and pick that AVCHD Directory to import from. Many others are using this method so they don't have to reconnect the cams back up to the computer.
Copying Camcorders File to your Local Harddisk:
Copying the contents of the camcorders harddisk to the local drive usually fixes many problems (windows related issues). Then use the copy on the local harddisk to import from. Just make sure to copy all the directories on the cams harddisk because there are indexing files that also need to be copied or the import will fail. So simply mirror your cams harddisk to a local drive. When importing select the AVCHD folder on your local drive.
This method usually always works.

Joe,
I guess you rebooted after removing the sony software. It may leave some drivers behind after installing though.
I don't know, unfortunately I've been working only with the AVCHD mini-dvd's and not the harddisk camcorders. Some other users have copied the contents to the harddisk to back it up and reformatted the cams drive. Sometimes the disk gets corrupted.
Also could be other software installed on the computer conflicting. As you know every windows installation seems to have it's little quirks. Usually other codec packs installed can conflict with the ulead software (other H264 software). Programs such as VLC player though as far as I know do not share it's codecs with the windows system. Others do such as the universal codec packs, xvid etc.
I've used the other software you posted (in studios & trial versions), I also use the scaled down version called VMS7_Plat (those programs do not edit mpeg2 video very well). VS is written for the consumer based average user that doesn't need a pro-application with a steep learning curve.
When the mpeg2 format came out on dvd's it took the software industry 2-3+ years to catch up with all the editors. I expect the same with this new AVCHD(H264) Codec & related formats.
The only way users will be able to benefit is people like yourself & others posting problems. So it's good to post even if importing fails because it could be the program or drivers/conflicts on the system.
Thanks for your input.
Glad I bought a hd_cam that records in hd-mpeg2 (tape). I still think this new H264 format is going to take awhile to catch up no matter who writes the software. Simply a matter of time.
