My VS11 will not capture from TV using Sony Cam

Post by Kiwi Bob »

I have been using VS10+ to capture from my TV but VS11+ will not do this. The VS11 capture preview screen will not show a picture until after I press the 'capture video' then after a delay shows the running tv picture for a few seconds then capture stops with the message "Capturing failed, the file created is corrupted and unusable, it will be automatically deleted"

The AV TV signal is passed through a Sony DV Handycam DCR-TRV18E to my winXP PC's firewire card as DV.

I have tried reinstalling VS11+, checked connections etc. I reinstalled the old VS10 and found that VS10 captures ok.

Settings are the same for both versions. Changing these settings has not overcome the problem which appears to be in the recognition of the camera. VS 10 sees it as a Sony MSDV while VS11 sees it as a Sony DV device. Both have the information screen as 720x576DV type-1 Pal, DV audio. VS10 MS 1394 device control states 'supports dv camcorder' while VS11 MS 1394 device control states 'supports msdev camcorder'

Both versions will capture from the camera if I am playing a dv tape and not using the AV/DV passthrough.

I guess this may be beyond the scope of this forum but thought I should try for suggestions.

Thanks
Bob

DV passthrough has never been in any way documented in Ulead tutorials or manuals.

Though we dont forbid thr use of such, if it works then that's okay. If not we can only suggest that you must use compatible analog capture device for this purpose.

Thanks.
