Exporting AVCHD in VideoStudio 11

Post by abizer »

Hi, I just purchased VideoStudio 11 and a new Sony HDR-SR1 camera, and I've figured out how to import AVCHD into VideoStudio 11. However, was wondering what export functionality there was.

The software that came with the camera (Sony Picture Motion Browser) has a nice function to create AVCHD disks that I can pop in my PS3 and watch in HD, with the limitation of limited editing. Is there a way to create Data DVD's in VideoStudio to mimic this function?? I messed around and found the export to 1080i, but it just created a huge MP2 file which didn't seem very efficient. Am I missing something on the export page to create a Data AVCHD disk, or something comparable with no loss in file quality that I can play in HD on my PS3??

When you import your videos from the camcorder to the harddisk they will be extracted to your assigned "Working Folder" under "Preferences" F6 Hotkey.
The avchd videos will have an extension of .m2t. They should also be in the library (I think). Right-Clicking on the videos on the timeline or maybe in the library should also display where they are located on your harddisk.

To playback on the PS3 just copy them to a SD card or burn them to DVD as a data file. Not sure if CD's will work because of CD access time, may be to slow.

I wrote a small post on using the PS3 and how to navigate files on external media along with the proper folders, also for HD playback of HD-Mpeg2. In the case of avchd files simply use them. There is no need to convert them unless your editing them and creating a new HighDef video file. You can also copy the files to your PS3's internal harddisk.

Thanks for your response. I guess my original question though, is that I want to edit the AVCHD files with VideoStudio, and then take those edited files with no loss of quality and play them in the PS3. I read your thread about exporting to MPEG2 and playing on PS3. Is that the only way to go?? There is no way of taking my project and exporting it as a AVCHD file, and then transporting the edited project to the PS3?? Thanks again.
