mp3 codec for audio editor
mp3 codec for audio editor
Did a minor edit on a audio file ripped from a CD. When trying to save it as a mp3, audio editor said "failed to find codec.' Where can this codec be found and installed. Thanks.
You can buy one: there are many competitive ones on the Internet (some of the free). However, be warned, there is mp3 and mp3 and they are not the same. Why? Because mp3 does not really exist! MP3 is part of the MPEG-1 video standard (layer 3 audio) and is standardised as such, but not as a standardised stand-alone audio format. The result is that there codecs that will give different coding to others because the video is stripped off by different means, This will make no difference if you are just listening to music on an iPod or similar but it will make a difference if you try to re-integrate an mp3 sound channel back into a video. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't, sometimes it will stop playing half-way through, sometimes it will play but lose synch. For this reason, many here have always recommended that mp3 be converted to WAV before using it in a video application. This is one reason why you see Audacity cited here quite often: it is an audio editor ideal for making such conversions (incidentally, it also comes without an MP3 encoder, just a decoder).

I agree with Devil that you are better off using Audacity
Even then though you have to download and install a FREE MP3 encoder.
